Clarithromucin and Cefdinir Combo

My Lyme doc just called and wants me on Clarithromycin and Cefdinir to help get rid of my Lyme.

Does this sound like a good combination and has anyone done this or something similar in the past? What were your results?

In addition she is prescribing Nystatin capsules to help with yeast and using xylitol to break up biofilms. Then a good probiotic as well as magnesium and hawthorne berry to help with heart palpitations.

I did Ceftin with Clarithromycin. I believe ceftin is an older generation that Cefdinir.

It is a good combination.

I can't remember which symptoms resolved with that particular combo...my symptoms slowly fade away over time.
I think I was only on the clarithromycin with the ceftin for 6 weeks ....Dr. pulled the clarithromycin - when he thought my rash on my back was from it.

The others you mentioned are good supplements.

The most optimal approach is to raise the immune system which fights all types of invaders of every species. Many naturals help raise the immune system.

Diethylcarbamazine (DEC) and other Piperazines are suspected to raise the immune system and that may be why they don't allow you to have it. This is not an industry that favors cures but wants you coming back.

This is why they don't address the nematode bacteria relationship and anthelmintics must often be obtained the same way as DEC, legally and cheaply from overseas pharmacies for personal use.

You often must treat for bacteria first in any event because it is what reproduces the fastest. Theoretically you should be able to reduce the bacteria and starve the nematodes but those who relapse over and again using just antibiotics should seriously consider anthelmintics at the end of the anitbiotics.

It is undeniable that antibiotics lower the immune system and this must be taken into consideration. Many of us had to go this route and not because we wanted to but because we had to or no other option was given us.

Either way you should always be trying to raise the immune system before you consider antibiotics as well as during antibiotic use.

NicHostetier - For me, it was the antibiotics that did the most for me. I have been on herbs..for chunks of time...but not consistently like the antibiotics. And some blocks of time I've made improvement and have only been on the antibiotics.

I don't want to persuade you to do one or the other...one thing to remember. Whatever you choose - antibiotics...or herbs...or a combination...it's not written in stone. You can switch...change it up at any time.


I do take supportive/detox herbs with my antibiotics though:

Pinella, Bubur, Hawthorne, Kudzu Root, Greater Celandine...(I think there's more...just can't remember right now)

Thats great info! I am not opposed to antibiotics at all, the only thing I worry about is stomach issues. My doc has me on probiotics and nystatin though like I mentioned earlier.

I have pinella, bubur and I just purchased standardized Hawthorne to help my heart.

I just can't imagine taking antibiotics for 18-36 months like my lyme doc said.. I would assume usually you don't actually have to do them that long?

The length of time varies...

How many co-infections are we dealing with?
How long has the person had it?
Are we diagnosing the co-infections early on...or years into treatment?
How is the person responding to the antibiotics?
Are there other issues: mold, viruses, detox challenges..etc.

I talked to a lady who lives in my Province and she treated for 3.5 years with antibiotics. She is now in remission - and has been for almost a year now.

For chronic lyme - I'd say you can count on a year at least....even 18 months to two years is not uncommon.

I've been in treatment for over two years.
But...it should only be about a year and a half now...didn't start treating the Bartonella until over a year after starting treatment...

Depending on what your symptoms are - it doesn't mean you won't be functional sooner though...if symptoms are manageable.
Some people continue to work while on treatment...others' can't.

Does switching things up set you back? Thats what I worry about..

The only things I have tested positive was for mycoplasma pneumonia and chlamydia pneumonia through MDL. Anaplasma phagocytophilum, Babesia and Bartonella were all negative. I also had a positive lyme western blot IgM.

I'm not sure when I actually got Lyme, but I know I started getting really bad brain fog and fatigue 10 months ago. So it could've been then or I may have had it longer without realizing it..

With this info would you say I should be able to knock it out pretty quickly? Like 6 -12 months?

Honestly - I can't predict how long it will take you to get well.

I doubt if it will be only 6 months though. But - that doesn't mean you won't be doing better at 6 months time..just not common to be fully healed at the 6 month mark...

If you switch it up because your protocol isn't working...then it won't set you back..(because your protocol wasn't helping anyway).

I completely understand! My doctor told me that I should feel like I'm turning a corner within 4-6 weeks and if not then we need to switch up. That just surprised me because if treatment is 18 months or more then I'm surprised I would see any improvement in just 4 weeks, but I guess only time will tell!

4 weeks is quick to see improvement - but some people do. I didn't.

Not sure if you should expect to be 'turning the corner ' within 4-6 weeks...that is very quick....and very quick to switch things up.

Even though you may see improvements early on...it can still take time for all symptoms to abate.
It may not be 18 months for you...it could be sooner...

I think you'll just have to start treatment and see how it goes.
