I went Facebook Public about my Lyme Disease for Lyme Awareness Month. I am going to post a fact a day about Lyme for the entire month.

I haven't really been secretive about my illness, but I haven't really talked much about it either, except with family and very close friends. So this is a big step.

Congratulations, MM!!! I hope you find that you have a lot of support from the people that know you!

And, you are helping to educate those that watch your profile!! You are doing a good thing!!

I gotta get to my FB page and get started soon! First I have to find a bit of time though. LOL.

I plan on doing the same - only I have mine controlled to friends of friends bc public posts attract trolls, and I just can't handle that.

I am going to post a mix of facts, articles, and glimpses of my own experience.

And I found a lime green scarf I'm going to wear all month smile

Congrats! I've found most of my friends are supportive with only the occasional scoffer. It's been mostly positive.

Its a big step to come out with a disease that is not considered fashionable in order to raise awareness. I wish more people would find the courage to do so and care less about image or ego. I applaud you. I hope you are an inspiration to others!

I've been overwhelmed by the amount of support I've received from the posts. Lots of friends sharing and many messaging me to say thank you or tell me how they never knew about something (in relation to a post).

Telling others what you are going through can be very good, because we can't expect people to understand if they don't know. The challenge I see is that there is so much misinformation about the infections we wrestle with out there that even if they have heard of it, they likely have no clue that it can get as bad as what we live with daily - even if we aren't 'some of the worst affected' with these infections.

I'm so very glad to hear that you have found support among your friends and acquaintances, MM!!

I have told all my friends (FB) when I got lyme disease. Boy did I want them aware. They all are super supportive and are so much more informed.

They send me more articles on lyme than I put up. It is nice that they all are informed and ask me questions.

I don't do the public thing for anything on FB.
