Thyroid numbers are so individual that there simply is no way to guide someone except to say experiment a bit. That is harder than it sounds as it takes weeks or longer for dose changes to be felt, (well, T3 is faster than T4) and even longer than that for the body to settle. Patience is needed whether we want to go along with it or not.
There are people who take 2, 3, 4 grains of dessiccated thyroid and feel great. Me? I was climbing the walls when my FT3 was over mid range!! Exhausted, terrible brain fog. (Oh, I had dizziness too but found out that was due to low B12. Supplementing resolved it.)
I feel very good and have for years when my FT4 is above mid range, and FT3 is in the lower third of the range. I managed to accomplish this with a combination of desiccated thyroid (formulated like Naturethroid) and by adding T4 to get the T4 up.
I don't want to go on too long, but the reason many people do this is because porcine thyroid has a higher T4 to T3 ratio than human thyroid. By adding T4, this ratio is corrected.
Head humming you say? Literally? When my T3 was too high, my ears were buzzing. Like a high pitched humming. That really didn't feel right. In fact, it's one of the ways I know to back off on T3.
Good luck! You'll get there. Just not being on T4 alone is a huge step in the right direction.
