Update on LLMD appt

I saw my LLMD again yesterday. He confirmed that what I've been experiencing is hypoglycemia.

Actually, I confirmed it for him, as I started to not feel well while driving there and needed to take 3-4 glucose pills; when I walked into the office, I was sweating and trembling. I could tell by the receptionists' faces that I looked like hell LOL (I wasn't really sure if I was experiencing hypoglycemic episodes or panic attacks; I'd usually take half a xanax first followed by glucose pills when the xanax didn't appear to help. Since I was driving yesterday, I couldn't reach the xanax but had glucose pills in the cupholder, so I took those first.)

Other than that, he still suspects Bart and keeps mentioning IV abx but wants to treat this orally first. (I'm terrified of having to do IV.) He wants me to start on Doxy 2x a day while I finish my last week of Biaxin 3x day. I'm pretty sure he said when I see him next month, he will then add Rifampin (so I will be on Doxy and Rifampin going forward.)

Some LOLs though:
- he asked me why I waited so long to come in for a follow-up. I said that I was just there at the end of March. He said, yes, that was two months ago. I somehow forgot about the entire month of April lol
- when I told him I would take half of a xanax, that I would take .05mg instead of the whole .25mg, he pointed out that half of .25 IS NOT .05 (it's .125 lol)

So I pretty much confirmed for him cognitive issues too lol

He said Doxy is very good for crossing blood/brain barrier. Is this true? I thought it wasn't effective in that sense?!

So, is there a plan to deal with the hypoglycemia issues?

What about adding in an herbal protocol along with the oral abx to see if you can avoid the IV abx? Have you told him that you don't want IV abx?

There are other abx that do a better job of crossing the BBB, but it does cross over.

For now, I'm following a hypoglycemia diet, eating every few hours and making sure I eat a lot of protein. He ordered the saliva cortisol test; I have to send that in when I get the money.

I did tell him the first time that I didn't want to do IV. Mostly, it's because of cost, but I also don't know if it would be practical for me. I still have to work, take care of the dog, etc etc and I live alone. I'm not sure how easy it is to do alone.

He's not against herbal protocol, but he wanted to start my treatment with abx. I'm sure if I told him I wanted to add in herbs, he would work with me. I just wanted to follow his lead for a little while. I think I need to work on being a better patient lol

Don' be too afraid of IV, but it is usually reserved as a last resort for serious ill patients, and those with stomach issues and can't take orals. Since you can drive better than remembering to make appointments I would say you're not that bad off. 8^) Heck I sometimes forget what I just ate for lunch.

Also if your health insurance carrier covers IV for only 30 days, it's not worth the hassle and orals should be almost as good. IM shots can be just as effective as IV for short term treatment. I too live alone, and was on IV for 16 months and worked full time for the last 10 month with PICC line in my arm. Prior to that I worked only a four day week. In the end it was co-infections that was preventing significant improvements to my Lyme sx, and maybe I didn't need the IV for that long after all.
