What's does herxing feel like for you?

I know this is a common question. Looking for specifics on what you guys feel when you herx!

It's different for each of us. For me, I start with electrical vibrations, then I usually go through adrenal output lowering (so exhaustion sets in quickly), then headaches, foot pains, digestive upset/dysfunction increases, and so on. It's just an increase in most of my current symptoms, although if it goes on, I will begin to get new symptoms - not new to me, but ones that I don't usually deal with.

I keep my herxing down to very low levels because once I get started getting overwhelmed with toxins, my issues compound quickly.

I get an increase in nerve pain, along with pressure in my head behind my eyes.
Also, shivers, and I get emotional

If it wakes me up in the night...I can't handle it very well...it catches me off guard.

A few times, I have had air hunger.

These are current herxes since starting Babesia treatment.

I also feel 'doom and gloom' when they happen...thoughts of "I'm never going to get better" enter my head...and just exacerbates the situation.

Eyes burn ,aches ,lead feet , some nerve stuff .emo crap like girlie said ...according to my microscope not much actually kills these thing ...what we think is herxing is probably them drilling from one spot to another symptoms exacerbation

Tick41, I was JUST about to ask this question. For me, it's HEAVY lethargy and fatigue, dizziness, hard depression - but who knows if that's herx or just lyme? I actually don't know. The worst I felt was when I started Bartonella and Babs treatment I was super dizzy, nauseous, achy, felt like I had the worst flu without the mucous. I was on the couch for three days just feeling wretched.

I'm with 10LymeB - who knows if it is a herx or Lyme. But I seem to get symptoms about 5 hours after taking herbs. Temperature changes (think that's part of it), fatigue, more nervous, headache, at times, more tingling in hands and nose, sometimes nausea.

Anxiety is my worst symptom overall, so it seems to get much worse when I believe I am herxing. Sorry so vague, but it is hard to distinguish

You only know it WAS a herx, in my opinion, when you take loads of binders like chlorella, MSM, glutathione, whatever you like, in enough amounts to bind neurotoxins.

I knew my herxes when they were totally GONE after binders. It can be quite fast, when you take them in combination in the right amounts (I did energy testing to find out amounts).

I swear that 15 minutes after intake, I felt my brain fog going slowly away, and after 30 minutes, clearly less fatigue, less pains (my herxes depended on the pathogen being killed).

Herxes for me caused: air hunger, lack of air, palpitations, variations in blood pressure, anxiety in all levels,
arthritic or muscle pains, nerve pains, chills, headache, heavy legs, tinnitus increased, even body paralysis once...

I know they were herxes, because stuff like chlorella in great amounts made these reactions disappear completely for a couple of hours (until I needed more intake of binders!)

The herxing that I may still experience sometimes (being mostly recovered) are mild but still happens. Skin breakouts, some head fogginess, and nerve pain.

Sometimes when a random nerve sensation happens I just stare at that spot on my body and just think "what is going on in there?" (rhetorical question).

Also, I know for sure I'm herxing when sleep issues rears it's ugly head again. I'll sleep great for several weeks in a row but then what seems like out of no where for "no reason" I'll have full blown insomnia for like 2-3 days and then go right back to sleeping great again.

same here with sleep ive been good for a month now but the other shoe will drop im sure

Yea, you know it's eventually coming. So I enjoy the 1,2, maybe even 3 months of quality sleep before a bad week blind sides me. Right when you start thinking it's no longer a problem.

It's my opinion that herxes and flares are hard to distinguish from each other, although it can be done much of the time. Considering a herx is due to die off reactions, if you have recently increased a dose of most anything, herxing can happen whether it's from killing off bacteria or from increased ability to detox. If increased detoxing helps, then it was a herx (once you know your body well enough to know what works well for detoxing). Other things that may increase herxing are stress, dietary changes (herxing from Candida/fungal issues), and a few other things I"m sure I'm forgetting.

Flares can happen from stress, just the cycle of the bacteria/fungus/protozoa or other things I'm sure I'm forgetting. If a person is in a flare, detoxing won't help, although it can help make sure it's not from herxing.

I'm of the attitude that I first assume it's a herx - because I herx a lot. LOL. At least I know that about my body. I immediately start increasing my detoxing while I try to figure out what may be causing it. Often I don't know exactly what causes it, but I find my 'relief' anyway. For example, I was noticing less issues with a specific pressure in my side that I finally tracked down to be my spleen. I was using Chinese skullcap for cytokine remodulation, and realized that my spleen wasn't giving me any issues either! Looked it up, and it does help with the spleen. So this will be an herb that I will definitely be staying on.

I used to get daily flares every late afternoon/early evening lasting about 3-4 hours - this was prior to treatment...so not herxes.
When I started treatment the herxes would come any time of the day,and often worse than my usual flares.


It's not easy for some of us to distinguish...

I just detox every day...regardless ...and know that it is doing my body good.

It's still hard for me to distinguish between herxing and flares. I'm just trying to find a balance. I don't know what's worse....the emotional or physical symptoms.

You can herx without "treatment". The immune system fighting lyme on its own can cause die off and therefore a herx.

Further confusing it all lol.

I personally kind of see it as the same thing.

I vote: Emotional/Mental. The feeling of losing my mind or being super depressed/anxious is worse. Physical, you can hunker down and ride it out. But the "can't control my own brain" feels so much more helpless.
