Which method have people found more effective?

1. Taking a single antibiotic for a few weeks/then off a couple weeks/then new antibiotic a few weeks/etc

or

2. Alternating 2 -3 antibiotics within the same week for months with no break

or

3. Something else?

Single abx therapy is not very successful

There are all different pulsing cycles of combo abx protocols.

I've pulsed IV rocephin 4 days on then three days off. During the same time Tini was pulsed two days a week, while Zith, Mepron and Bactrim were take daily. That was pretty extreme

Once it was Cipro and Plaquenil full time; pulse Ceftin 2 weeks on/off

Another time it was Cipro, Tetracycline, Plaquenil 2 weeks on/off

Ceftin and Bactrim two week on and two weeks off.

Currently its Tetra and Alinia two weeks on and two off, with Diflucan on same pulse schedule until the 30 pills are gone.

I've heard other pulse M W and F. Girlie will chime in with some of her pulse schedules.

Agree with tickbite about single abx.
I wouldn't do a pulsed approach - where you take one antibiotic on it's own for a few weeks, then switching it.
You should do at least two antibiotics together.

I also wouldn't alternate the antibiotics in the same week (for the same reason above - they need to be taken on the same day IMO)

I take mine M/W/F week 1

M/T/W/Th/F week 2

one week off.

I find the M/W/F week more tolerable .

I load up on my probiotics, and other support supplements on the days/weeks off. It's nice to have those days to not worry so much about the schedule and fitting everything in.

This is all helpful. I want to have an idea of a plan when I go back to LLMD next time. I think I may try doing the doxy and tin m - w - f.

My doc was reading Horowitz new book and that's why he had me alternate doxy and tin. I don't know if it was the switch from doxy to mino or not doing doxy/mino everyday or what, but I'm really hurting again. Twitches have improved again since going back to doxy, but I think I'm going to try what Girlie mentioned:

m - w - f take doxy and tin together. Samento daily.

My feet pain and muscle pain is worse again, so I'm going to ask him if what we're doing is hitting the bart. Skin mottling still there too. Maybe the Samento is supposed to help that? Not sure.

Kat - I didn't know Dr. H. did a pulsed approach.

Keep us posted - how you do on the m/w/f dosing.

I'll double check at my appt and make sure it's Horowitz. Right now I'm feeling so crummy, I'm thinking of doing doxy every day for a week (plus 3 days tin and the every day samento) and then pulsing the doxy and tin every other day (instead of alternating days).

I will admit I've been so busy with work and kids activities my detoxing is less than it was last month so I will up that again too. He said to remind him of the bart at the next appt.

I go back to dr in 2 weeks so I decided to try m-w-f of doxy/tini/samento sat - doxy/samento and sunday samento only. I should have a good idea if that is helping before I see him again. I want to ask him specifically if he needs to add something for bart.

I've also upped the detox again. I had a great swedish massage this weekend that really got my circulation moving, and I'm feeling better today as far as the achiness. I also got the new book about lyme I ordered and want to start reading.

Kat - have you thought about only pulsing the antibiotics, but taking the samento daily?

Usually herbals aren't pulsed...

Girlie - I'll take samento daily. I'm not even up to full dose yet of 30 drops a day so not sure if it's doing anything.

I bought some activated charcoal I'm going to add into the mix to see if that helps.

You know to take the charcoal a few hours away from everything else, right?

You don't want the 'good' stuff to be swept out with the toxins.

I read to take charcoal 3 hours away from the rest. It says I can take 2 capsules 2-3 times a day, but I'm taking 2 around midday because otherwise I can't fit it in.

I'm looking into red root also. I read too late last night so don't remember why! I need to go back and read that section. I learned rickettsia can cause mottled skin also, so may have something to do with that. Mycoplasma is another I need to read more about.
