Why Flagyl when Tinidazole is available?

So my LLMD prescribes Flagyl instead of Tinidazole. Not sure I understand this since Tinidazole is a newer version of the drug and as such has less side effects, more penetration, wider coverage and a few other improved benefits.

The only thing I can think of is LLMD's who do flagyl may be because its cheaper and/or its worked for them so they stick with it. Any other thoughts? Thx.

I don't have an answer.

Considering that Black box warning is because of Flagyl causing bladder cancer in mice/rats...I wonder why the Tinidazole isn't prescribed all the time.

It could also have that risk...because it's a similar drug...but there's a chance it doesn't.

Add it to your list of questions for your next LLMD appt.?
