When all this first started years ago, years before I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease, tinnitus began. The ENT put me on a low dose on Clonopin, which I still use, to slow down electrical activity in the brain. At least that's how he described it.
It has helped a lot with anxiety. However, I have never gone up in amount taken (less than 1 mg a day) and even got down to less than 0.5 milligram before the recent relapse of Lyme.
With that said, I have never had a problem becoming dependent on a medicine. In fact, I am very medication leery and am careful with whatever I take.
Right now, it does help keep my anxiety down, which is critical. I also do neurofeedback to help with that. Whoever takes a benzo, just need to know yourself and whether you would risk becoming dependent and want to keep raising dose.
Naturals have never helped me in that area, though I do use herbs for Lyme and co-infections now.
