The sugar alcohols have a long established proven history of benefit in breaking up biofilms and reducing bacterial loads.

It may be other additives that causes some to receive a benefit from Stevia supplementation as this sweetener is commonly combined with other items in its commercial preparation.

I believe all of the sugar alcohols have similar activity in the reduction of bacterial loads. Theoretically if we were to go into a state of complete ketosis and force Lyme bacteria to consume these sugar alcohols I wonder if we could succeed in eradicating it from our bodies all together.

It would be helpful to figure out which ones they prefer to consume.
If there were a safe way to introduce it into the bloodstream I believe it would accomplish erradication.

Xylitol has a super low glycemic index meaning very little is converted to glucose. Based on the chart below Erythritol may be able to starve these bacteria completely under the right conditions.

2.6 calories per gram Sorbitol

2.4 calories per gram Xylitol

2.1 calories per gram Maltitol

0.2 calories per gram Erythritol


I would love to conduct a study on this with grant money. If only I had the credentials that they like to see.

I plan to incorporate the use of Erythritol in the near future in place of Xylitol and see. I imagine I would have to go back to a state of ketosis also, but this is a reasonably simple protocol compared to many.

The steviosides may act in a similar way as some in vitro studies have suggested but based on personal experience I see Erythritol as having the most promise.
