Antibiotic recommendations ?

I have bartonella and lyme, and EBV and an mthfr mutation. I do really poorly with rifampin (have had liver issues) and azithromycin, and biaxin hurt my stomach really bad.

Does anyone have any antibiotic recommendations that aren't too rough on the liver? I am taking a two week break from everything to detox.

I've been in treatment a long time but Tinidazole has really helped me with bartonella (even though it's usually used for Lyme). I have a hetero MTHFR mutation which my Dr. says takes me longer to detox BUT doesn't want me on anything for it. I was taking Thorne Methyl B vitamins and he told me to stop because it was pulling out too many toxins (along with other things I guess) and getting in the way of treatment.

For barontella - the most effective are the Fluoroquinolones (that come with black box warning RISKS) - some LLMD's consider them a 'last resort' medication; and Rifabutin/Rifampin.


I don't know if you'll be able to knock out bart pharmaceutically without one of those.

I don't know if you'll be able to knock out bart pharmaceutically without one of those.

I already took rifampin and it really messed up my liver in the long run...I am looking for a different antibiotic. Right now I'm on A-bart and A-Lyme but I'm not quite sure if they're getting me where I need to be...

sorry - I see now that you posted about them bothering your stomach. Did you try taking them with food?

Yes, I did. They were tearing up my gut- that's why I had to go off. I guess I'll just try the herbal stuff instead.

I think because you have reacted to the abx - you may need to go the herbal route.

I don't know enough about abx to give you an answer on which ones will be best for you. But I will say that i noticed a big improvement in how well I detoxed when I started taking desiccated liver supplements. My acupuncturist actually suggested it. My LLMD said it wouldn't hurt, so I gave it a go. It really was a game changer. I was already detoxing like crazy, but this just seemed to make it more effective.

For Lyme my doctor had me on a lot but the consistent one was varying amounts of Doxycycline. Was i on it every month for the past 4 years? No, but it was the most consistent. I think Omnicef was another, sorry I'm at work so I can't check my cabinet but I was probably on any antibiotic that is talked about on this forum.
But since I had slight MTHFR my doctor didn't want me on Bactrim (I was on it only once for a short time before we found MTHFR).

Personally I switched to herbals and they tore my stomach up more than antibiotics did. So i just went back on antibiotics. If your stomach is already torn up then herbals might just make it more sensitive. Maybe try a 1 month break from everything to repair gut?

Zhang hh2 and allicin with bvt really is putting a hurt my barty lyme.with oul of oregano i smell like a delicious pizza
