Hello.

I took Stevia today for my second time. An hour later, I started getting super itchy on my legs. Then I looked and noticed they were big hives on my thighs. My armpits the insides of my wrists have been starting to itch a bit too. The only thing new/different today that I can think of is the one drop of Stevia I took. Anyone know with this itchy rash is commonly from Stevia? Thx!!

Anyone can have a reaction to anything, and Stevia is no exception, though allergic reactions are not terribly common. I have been growing the plants and chew the leaves right off of it with no problems. Neither has my daughter or my male friend.

But it IS always a possibility, so stop taking it for a few days to make sure it's not something else. If you're brave enough, give it another try next week and see if it happens again. Or just do a spot sensitivity test on your arm.

Sorry that's happening to you, must be pretty uncomfortable! Time for a bath soak to pull it out?

It's possibly an allergy.

Stevia is in the same plant family as Ragweed. I didn't know this until a few minutes ago.

As julymorning said - stop taking it and see if the reaction subsides. You can try taking it again after a week or so.

Excellent tip Girlie, I did not know about the ragweed connection to stevia either. Also related to chrysanthemums, marigolds, and daisies.

Ragweed allergies are so weird (I guess most are though). I have a bad allergy to rag weed, and because of that, I don't tolerate milk thistle (it actually makes my liver hurt after the first dose), but I have been using stevia for over 20 years now and tolerate it just fine.

My allergist says I am allergic to ragweed but I also do fine with stevia. I do a dropper full a day in my coffee and have for years.

Weird is right.
