Hi everyone,
I was treated for late-stage Lyme in the beginning of this year with a few months of Ceftin and a combination of herbs and supplements. After the lab work came back negative in April, my Dr. advised me that no further treatment was necessary and that I simply needed to rest and allow my body time to recover.
After speaking with several members on this forum, I decided to start the Buhner's protocol in conjunction with a "cyst buster" just to be safe. Rather than purchase the traditional tinctures online, I bought all of the ingredients in comparable dosages separately as this was more cost-effective. I have been taking Japanese Knotweed, Cat's Claw Vine Bark, Andrographis, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Eleuthero Root, Sarsaparilla Root, and Dandelion Herb. These are all of the ingredients present in both the Core and Tonic protocols.
I have been on the Buhner protocol for about
5 weeks now, and am seeing a mild improvement in symptoms, but nothing major. I still rarely feel well enough to get out of bed, much less go back to working full-time or spend time with friends and family. I am going to continue the protocol for another 3 weeks until the supplements I've purchased run out.
Has anyone found success with using this protocol following antibiotic treatment? If so, how quickly did you start to feel better?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Here is Buhner's core protocol from his latest book, Healing Lyme, Second Edition:
1. Protecting endothelial structures (pg 214) - Polygonum cuspidatum (Hu Zhang or Japanese Knotweed)
2. Cytokine remodulation (pg 214) - Salvia miltiorrhiza (Red Sage or pinyin: dānshēn) and Scutellaria baicalensis (Skullcap or Huang Qin)
3. Collagen protection (pg 214) - Great lakes gelatin, Vit C, Selenium, etc - My personal recommendation for collagen is Protein Essentials Hydrolyzed Collagen.
4. Immune remodulation (pg 215) - Unicaria tomentosa (Cat's Claw), Cordyceps mycelium (a mushroom), withania somnifera (ashwagandha), Eleutherococcus senticosus, Glycyrrhiza (licorice)
5. Antispirochetal (pg 215) - Andrographis

PeteZa, thank you for that. I am going to look into that further as it seems I am missing a few herbs to my overall protocol.
1000Daises, I have been tested positive for Lyme three times now over the past 6 years. All three times the co-infections test came back negative for all. The first test was with Quest Labs and the last two were with IGENEX. It seems like IGENEX is a fairly reputable test, so seeing as that it came back negative two different times, I've been standing by those results.

Intuition, I am glad you can see that there are some items missing from your treatment. Just a few things.

Intuition - Testing can't tell us when we're done with treatment - symptom resolution can.
And it sounds like you stopped treatment too soon - since you rarely feel well enough to get out of bed.
Also, re: testing for the co-infections. Most of us with Lyme also have co's.
Unless you catch it in the first few days/weeks...more than lyme treatment is necessary.
"It seems like IGENEX is a fairly reputable test, so seeing as that it came back negative two different times, I've been standing by those results."
That is not a wise thing to do. The testing for the co-infections is not reliable/accurate - in fact some LLMD's don't even test for them...they assume you have the three B's and treat them.
At the very least, they will got on symptoms...and ongoing symptoms after a fair time on lyme treatment.

I've been having success and was never treated with antibiotics. I've been on knotweed almost 3 months now and cats claw a few weeks. Most of my pain is gone but I still herx a little when increasing the dose. I know I'm still sick but fairly stable and functional. I would stick with it longer

...and Dr. J. treats all three B's for a reason. In a recent interview he said "Babesia is ubiquitous".

my Igenex was positive for Lyme but not for co-infections. my LLMD treated based on symptoms and said I likely had them.
taking Sida Acuta, creepylepis
for co-infections and more..

I love saying creepylepis! That made me giggle. But for newbies it is short for cryptolepis.

It's worth noting that it's well accepted fact that tests often turn negative after treatment. So they are in no way shape or form useful for measuring progress. On the other hand if they don't turn negative they can remain positive for years even after successful treatment in theory. In other words antibody titre can only tell you if you've had the infections. They can't tell you when or that you haven't
