How can I find out what possible reactions could occur between herbs? I didn't really know this could be a concern.

I believe it was Traveler who suggested that I should be checking to see what possible side effects could occur with new supplements I was about to take.

I think you will have to google each individual herb to see their side effects.

There are charts (/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_herbs_with_known_adverse_effects and herbs.lovetoknow.com/Side_Effects_of_Herbal_Medicine), but many of those do not include any herbs taken for lyme disease. Do you have an LLMD? And is the LLMD one that is advising you to take herbs? They certainly should know.

You can also contact an herb shop and ask them. SageWomanHerbs have workers there that are very knowledgeable and they really did give me good customer service when I inquired about some of the herbs. You might try them if you don't have anyone local.

PeteZa and Traveler are correct.

Buhners book also has a section called Materia medica which explains side effects and contradictions for the herbals in his protocols.

Thank you for the info.

I am treating myself, following Buhner's protocol & have 2 of his books & am aware of the Materia medica. I had planned to do a colon cleanse & then detox, using Western Botanicals formulas. The herbs from Buhner's recommendations seem to make me constipated & I knew I needed to keep things moving thru my system.

Since I am also dealing with liver issues Traveler suggested I make sure the supplements I planned to take for the colon cleanse & detox do not react to the milk thistle & dandelion I am taking for the liver.

I don't know how to figure this all out.

I hope that is clearer. I should have explained more fully.

I am curious about what you might be doing for a colon cleanse? Water is the best thing, unless you are going for a colonoscopy. Then there is over the counter super cleaners and boy, do not get more than 5 feet from a bathroom. When it works, it works.

Here is a great article on colon cleanses. It really needs to be something super gentle.

I'm back.

I went with a product from Western Botanicals. Because the herbs I am taking are causing such constipation & because I had been having liver problems, it seemed a good thing to do would be to do a colon cleanse so my body can get rid of all the toxins & waste in a timely manner.

I religiously drink 9 glasses of water/day, so I know I get enough liquids. I have been eating prunes & using acacia fiber daily & still am constipated.

I was doing the colon cleanse for about 7 days & was getting lots of pain in my digestive tract, so after a few days of that I stopped the colon cleanse. Not sure now what course of action I will take.
