If you add Malarone or Rifampin - you could drop one of the others you are currently on.

You may need to do both (treat Babesia and bartonella) - separately.

hot flashes - is often babesia -- but can also be bart.

I've also read the frontal lobe headaches can be babesia...or bart. I've seen it on both lists.

There is a lot of cross-over.

Babs - how long were your 'rounds' of Mepron? One bottle? and was that 1 tsp twice daily - for approximately 3 weeks?

Did you find it hard to take?

I'm doing two weeks on and two weeks off...and find it's hitting me hard.

I consider a round 3 weeks, my doc said a single bottle should last that long. But it only lasts maybe 16-17 days. So I take a second bottle to get me to 3 weeks. I was just starting to herx at 2 weeks and was so excited to feel a difference I didn't want to stop. If it hits you in 2 weeks, take a break. I'm losing my patience and apparently detox well enough so I'm starting to go at it hard.

I take 1 tsp, with breakfast and dinner, and fat. I think the reason it took two weeks to work is that I was lax with the fat and just took it with a meal... the fat kicked it up, so keep taking that nut butter and avocado with it!

The first week I took it was weird, it made my tongue and lips numb, but I haven't had that problem since. If I take it with the Zithromax it gives me painful bloating, so I wait an hour then take z-max after dinner. At this point I have no problems.

First round brought out quite a herx. I did the second and felt a good bit better so we stopped for a few months- I think bc my doc takes insurance and didn't want to rx this $1300 drug more than needed. I know they say minimum 4 months, but err on the side of keeping your medical license! But the chest pressure came back and never left and I still got short bouts of air hunger. So we're back on it.

Didn't do anything for 2 weeks then I finally started herxing- cycling through all my symptoms for a day.

Air hunger, chest pain (when I take a deep breath, it feels like my lungs are squeezed by my rib cage), stabbing pain behind the eyes, sinus headaches, drenching night sweats with chills, hot and cold flashes, numbness at the base of my skull, tense neck and shoulders during insane anxiety attacks, panic attacks, and the other general symptoms of heavy and weak muscles, fatigue, migrating pains, etc.

I will start my 4th bottle today. I'm excited. I had my first days of no chest pain in 6 months. It comes back eventually but the few hours it's gone, especially in the morning when it used to be the worst, is so encouraging!

For what it's worth, my dental sensitivity is now GONE, and I just had my first normal, perfectly timed, menstrual cycle in 20 years!!! (I'm treating with progesterone and chaste tree berry, but it's taken a year to achieve a normal cycle- I hope this means lyme isn't fighting my hormones so much anymore)

Please keep us posted - also amazing your period has come back after a year of Progesterone and chaste berry.

I want to clarify that I've had my period, but it has been on an inconsistent schedule, sometimes 2 weeks apart, sometimes 2 months apart. It's been on a 21- day schedule and finally went to 28 like it's supposed to.

Ricky - what are or were your wife's symptoms of babesia ?
