Hello all, I was just diagnosed with Lyme by my family doctor. He put me on 100mg of doxy 2x a day. I pulled two ticks off me since last year, one was a southern tick they call stari when I was in Virginia, it gave me a nasty rash. Supposedly they don't carry Lyme but stari disease is a cousin to Lyme, I took two meds for a month plus a shot for that one. The other tick left no rash but was dug in pretty good. Doctor said I tested grossly positive and that it has to be a recent infection (he also says once treated it is gone) is this doxy enough? Should I seek a Lyme doctor for a second opinion or take the meds and see what happens?

Its good you were able to find us, but I am sorry its under these circumstances and you have Lyme.

This forum has many knowledgeable, experienced and caring members.

We suggest all new members read our "New to Lyme" start here page . Top of the page .

It has tons of information on Lyme and the other co infections, detoxing, testing, literature and so much more.

You may also go to ilads.com for information on treatment guidelines.

Since you have Lyme I would suggest you seek out an LLMD(Lyme Literate MD), most regular MD's, infectious disease MD's don't usually understand or treat Lyme and co infections properly.

You can do that here by enabling your email so others can respond with llmd's names to you.

We dont post dr. names to protect their privacy.

Lyme unfortunately is never completely gone, but people go into remission.

Do you have other symptoms currently?

What meds and dose are you on currently or will be on?

My symptoms are fatigue and weakness, extreme heat intolerance, pain in heels and Achilles' tendons, eye redness itching and watering, headache behind eyes, hot flashes, and muscle twitches for days.
I am currently taking 100mg of doxycycline twice a day.
I enabled my email so if anyone can send me info on a Llmd I live near the Lehigh valley in pa between Easton and stroudsburg.

Are you familiar with the co infection Bartonella? Some of your symptoms possibly point to that infection. Soreness in Achilles , heel, muscle twitching.
However its important to point out that many symptoms of Lyme overlap with some of the co infections.

I believe that 200 mg is not enough since you have a previous infections and currently have on going symptoms.

I am not a medical expert but from what I have seen from others on here you need to treat with at least 400 mg a day and treat until the symptoms are completely gone for 2 months.

I am hoping other more experienced will chime in since I am concerned about giving you the best information possible since you had a previous infection.

Many of us treat with two or more different types of Antibiotics at a time.
Also many members use herbals to treat.

If no one responds about the llmd you can email "Girlie" and request a list of llmd's in your area.

Welcome to the forum. Glad you found us, sorry you're here though.

Jo shared some good info - don't have much to add. You might already know that PA now has the highest rates of new Lyme cases, and due to several issues in what is actually reported and registered as a "case" or diagnosis, the numbers are horrifyingly much lower than the actual numbers of new cases every year.

MDs all throughout the country are notoriously uneducated about Lyme - so please continue to seek proper diagnosis and treatment.

welcome ,good luck , treat for coinfections and follow ilads treatment not isda bs ,regular docs will let you get ms or als and still say there is no lyme
