For those of you that have done the herbal route, what herbs have you taken in your protocol to fight Lyme and babesia?

I'm on antibiotics as of now but I'm not taking them more than a year. If i don't see any improvements, I'd like to go herbal and see what happens.

There are many routes of herbal treatment. If I were you I would read on each one and pick the one that seems like a good fit for you.

Beyond Balance
Stephen Buhner
Bill Rawls, MD
Byron White
Cowden Protocol

Those are off the top of my head and I am sure there are more.

buy a book, seriously. there are dozens of herbs and many protocols. Buhner / Cowden are the most popular.

you can also combine herbs with abx, for eg keep one abx that u tolerate well and add herbs.

Maybe try to get some guidance from a LLND? Not sure there are any in NJ, though.

Oh ok great. I have the new buhner book but I'm so confused with it. I don't think there is a specific section that lists the herbs for babesia, unless i missed it?

I wish i had the money to do both llmd and llnd. But right now shelling out office visits money out of pocket is tough

No he doesn't discuss it at length in Healing Lyme. He has two other books that cover co-infections.

If you're going to give abx a year and then switch to herbals then you wouldn't need your LLMD in addition to a LLND. Or maybe your LLMD can help you with herbals?

My llmd is Dr. S in Howell. I'm not sure how informed he is on herbals. Would u Happen to know?

I think Summer16 does. I know she sees him & she was taking herbals but not sure how much he knows.

I would start with Buhner's chapter 8 - lyme protocol.

The Buhner book on Babesia would be: "Natural Treatments for Lyme Co infections Anaplasma, babesia, and Ehrlichia"

It cost about $20 new.


Try not to get overwhelmed with his Healing Lyme book, if you carefully start at Chapter 8, you could just start with the basic ones like Japanese Knotweed, Andrographis,Cats claw(Uncaria tomentosa).

I would always only start with one to two drop if you decide on tinctures. Only one tincture at a time to see how you react that way you know which herb caused any reaction.

Under collagen protection on p214 The great lakes gelatin powder, Vitamin c and selium are good.

I added other supplements in the first two weeks of my treatment that he listed under Expanded collagen support protocol on pg 217,( Vit e, folic acid , zinc,Vit B complex)

I didnt take every one as he states, add in what you can or what you think you need.

After a few months I added the more specific herbals according to my symptoms.


Buhners book is hard to navigate at first, but believe me after treating with herbs for awhile its becomes your best friend.

The other chapters have excellent scientific information on Lyme that I think is crucial to know about.

Just a note. I had some babs symptoms and I could not take Sida Acuta. I did however take Cryptolepis and did fine and healed. So in some cases, like mine, only one of the herbs is needed.

Essential medica is a new kid on the block for all in 1 tincture .i found smilax and andrographis and houttynia to be of the most help for babs it was artmesia with bvt and rife

PeteZa thanks for the link;). Did you really heal from Babs on just one herb? Were you taking anything else?

Another forum member just told me that his LLMD believes that Babs can block progress so Physedgirl I don't know if what you're on is addressing Babs but if you're not making any progress after a couple of months maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to try some of the suggestions here. I, personally, wouldn't wait a year. xoxo

Thanx octobrsky. Right now Im on bactrim and omnicef. I'm waiting to see what other antibiotic he's gonna put me on in August. I know abx are trial and error so hopefully I get put on the right stuff.

Do you guys have any antibiotic suggestions that i can mention to my llmd to target babs?
