And we take supplements because it's not practical and even possible in some cases to get the doses that we want from our food.
For instance : Vitamin B12 - less than 100 mcg in a serving of beef and I take 1,000 mcg tablets.
...or Magnesium - I take 400-800 mg daly - can't get that amount in food easily.
