For me stress does increase and bring out symptoms.
For a few years I had some symptoms that I now know were Lyme and co, but full blown neuro Lyme came after a stressful ongoing situation at work( took a new job and walked into a hornets nest of co workers that hate each other) not fun to be in the middle.
So is it the acute stress or is it stress over time that reduced our ability to fight of infections.
Probably both.
Found this on avogal.co. on line:
when stressors and 'feeling under attack' remain constant, the fight-or-flight reaction stays turned on, over-exposing the body to cortisol and other stress hormones. The cells of the immune system (and other body systems) are unable to respond normally and produce levels of inflammation which increase the risk of further health issues.
Its well known that when under continued stress people are more susceptible to illness, cancers, infections etc.
So the best we can do is reduce stress, take time to relax, find coping mechanisms that can help us handle stress better.
Have a good day, Jo
