I've been reading everything I can about Lyme Disease lately. There are a couple of things I've been wondering about but haven't run across any answers.

I don't know if anyone here has answers but here goes:

I keep reading that Borrelia doesn't like to hang out in the blood. But if the Borrelia bacteria's main goal is to reproduce and spread, why would it not be hanging out in the blood? Seems to me that at some point they should be waiting there for a chance to hitch a ride on the next tick that bites you so it can spread to another vector.

Also, I'm having trouble with the idea that a tick has to be attached for what, 36 hours or something like that before it can transmit Borrelia. I'm also reading that Borrelia might be transmitted by fleas or mosquitoes. Obviously they aren't going to stay attached for long. So why would it be different with them?

Borrelia does not hang out in the blood because that's where it's most vulnerable. That's where it can be killed - it's safe haven is our tissues, bones and other areas of our body. Humans are known as "dead end hosts" - the bacteria doesn't usually 'go on' from us, unless it's spread by our own activities usually.

A tick can disperse it's poison in as little as 20 minutes, or even with the first bite (science backs this up), but it's science or personal stories like mine that doesn't make the news. There is some bacteria in the first secretions in the tick saliva as it prepares to attach.

Yes, Borrelia can be spread by - at minimum - mosquitoes and deer flies as well. And, it's not that they haven't found any other insects that can spread these infections, but rather that they are no longer looking to see if there are other insects that spread these infections. An attitude of "that's good enough" or of researchers being shut down because they are not 'towing the party line'.

There is so very much misinformation out there that we must be careful to double check nearly everything we read until we get to know the 'players' in this very odd performance.

Thanks Traveler. The idea that it takes 36 hours to transmit seems, well, I just can't get my brain to understand why. Even if the bacteria needs a certain amount of time to "wake up" (which is the best way I can understand what I've read) why would it need so much time?

Does Borrelia know that we are a dead end host? Does it hang out in the blood more often in species that aren't dead ends?

Indeed I got another question about Borrelia for people thinking that it was turned into a bioweapon (not that I do not trust this saying, but just wanna ask some more). I read from the posts that actually Borrelia exists long before, how does that go along with the saying that it was turned into a bioweapon by the Government? Actually, how is a bacteria turned into a bioweapon? Like, just via spreading, or what?

Honestly, I don't know. I've been much more concerned with how to beat this thing and the support end of this for humans - not the bacteria. (LOL!)

The whole spiel about it taking 36 hours is simply a disinformation campaign by IDSA and the CDC players. ILADS has a completely different standpoint on this subject. And although they are playing it safe with their statements, if you talk to enough Lyme patients that have been reinfected, you find that many have been infected by a tick that was attached for only minutes or a couple of hours at most.

"While the longer the tick is attached, the higher the risk of transmission, it is possible to get Lyme disease even if the tick is attached for less than 24 hours. The salivary juices of the tick, which contain anticoagulants, anesthetics, and immune suppressors, also contain microbes that can be injected at the time of attachment. Transmission of bacteria by ticks attached less than 24 hours has been well documented in animals, and a recent paper last year documented that this can occur in humans as well."

Borrelia does come out into the blood stream to reproduce. But they only reproduce every 3 weeks. It's why treatments that only go the blood, abx, some herbs take a long time to be successful. It's why it takes people 6 months to several years to overcome lyme.

You are hacking away at a lyme little by litter every time it's out and about and your body has the chance too.

Other treatment options that go beyond the blood stream can speed up the treatment process.
