Hello! I used to come on here about three years ago so often, to look for answers, advice, and help for my son (then almost 4) with lyme. I'm so, so happy to say that since then, with treatments for about 3 years, he's doing beautifully! Thank the Lord he's symptom free! Im so thankful for all the help and information I'd get from people here.
I have a new question and I'm not even really thinking it's Lyme related but I remember that usually there are some very informed folks here who know a wide range of things, so I thought I'd ask.
Ok, so my mom is suspecting thyroid issues, so she got her thyroid tested. The test came back with low levels. She's going to see a specialist in town for it.
Also though, her alkaline phosphate was high. Her liver enzymes were good though and everything else on basic CBC was normal. She's going to ask the dr. about the alkalines high thing.
Also, she had Epstein Barr virus years ago, deals with what she thinks are yeast issues (self-diagnosed) and gets infections in sinuses and jaw area often. So... not asking for diagnosis really, but wondering if anyone has any information on high alkaline phosphate causes?
This got long! I remember my old posts used to too. Thanks for any replies!

Hi stacestar - such good news about your son. Do you mind sharing with us - how your son healed - was he on antibiotics, or herbs...or a combination?


The Alkaline Phosphatase is a liver enzyme -it's part of the liver function test panel.


Now I did read high AP may also indicate a bone problem.

My AP went high for a few months when I was treating lyme (along with a few other liver function markers)

Thanks for the reply Girlie! I'd be glad to share what helped my son get over the Lyme. I'm pressed for time right now, so will come back here tonight with more details. But the short answer is he did 14 weeks of two antibiotics and then Beyond Balance herbs for Lyme and co infections (on and off, but mostly on) for about 2 years.

Yes, other than liver issues, I've seen high alk phos in people with Paget's disease, osteosarcomas, and other bone disorders. Your mom is doing the right thing asking her doctor about it.

Getting more specific with an Alkaline Phosphatase Isoenzyme test would help determine the cause. The B1 and B2 isoforms are released more with bone related issues like exercise. Other forms can be released from liver disease, heart disease, Vitamin D deficiency, and other blood calcium influencing conditions.
ALP is found in leukocytes so an increase in leukocyte destruction may cause an increase in ALP blood levels. I've seen that with exercise in myself. I feel the increase in blood flow targets more pathogens and the increased turnover in leukocytes.

An elevated ALT with ALP indicates a liver issue.

Before I realized I had Lyme, my Alkaline Phosphatase kept coming back high too.


I'm going to get it tested again when I feel better.
