How are some people with active lyme able to read books? Do they not have nuero lyme? No brain fog?

Then: I always wondered this. I was never one to really do extensive reading anyway, bits and pieces here and there. But since I had Lyme my whole adult life (30 years), I didnt know any difference.

When my symptoms were at their highest point there was no way I could read more than one page of anything without drifting out or totally forgetting what I just read. Had little mental clarity and the anxiety contributed to that.

Now: Still like that in some ways, just not nearly as bad. I have Buners book, but it still looks like to much work to read it cover to cover. Specific reference is one thing, all the pages are another. I also feel like I just dont have time to read books, I can never set aside time to do it, as there are more important things to do on my list that need to get done. I envy people who can sit calmly and read forever.

When I was really bad...I didn't bother reading much.


Now, I do, but I don't retain the information.

Some days are worse than others. But as I shift gears in my tx (I'm now starting or resuming bart and babs herbs at higher doses) the cognitive and brain fog, dissociation - the neuro-psych sx are still my worst and lingering sx. When I'm not 100% on top of the detoxing and gut health these sx scream.

One minute I can read a long article or NIH study. Literally, the next I'm staring at my phone, trying to discern between the telephone icon and the email icon--trying to figure out which one I push to make a phone call. It's insane.

When my lyme was at it worse, I could only read a page or two. I have always been a huge reader so this was a shock, but I could not remember what I read. I had to take notes. Or I scanned pages on the computer and filed them so I could find it later.

As for Buhner's Healing Lyme book, second edition, I only read Chapter 8 and had to read it numerous times. I still have not read that entire book and I am healed.

I drift dosing my tincture drops and thank god for DRV cause I confuse easily and have to rewind, I don't even want to mention my worse. Got Buhner's second edition yesterday, I knew it'd be overwhelming and it doesn't disappoint.

I used to love reading(earlier in my life; pre & early Lyme) but never seemed to have time for more then reference books(except when I was dealing with severe joint dislocations due to Ehlers Danlos-and at those times I'd read everything-pretty much constantly- it was my escape. ) As became sicker & unable to work at all (& as my concentration started to go ) I started reading a lot of fiction books I'd never had a chance to read- but I didn't retain any of it.

Now that my Lyme has progressed I have difficulty reading & often find myself rereading the same page repeatedly and still not following. It's really frustrating when all I want to do is get 'into' a book & distracted from how bad I'm feeling! If I do succeed in following through an entire book, I can look at it a few days later & not remember I read it at all.

Sometimes when things are really bad it seems like all the letters are moving around on the page & or blurry or doubled ( tripled,etc). I actually gave in and accepted a roku tv as a gift recently because I often am unable to read. I always swore I'd never have a tv in my house!

Thing about movies / TV ect- I dont remember much of them when I was really sick. Now I can watch them over and its almost like I never seen before.!

Hi astroman,

When I first bought Dr. Jernigan's book I couldn't read it from the beginning to end, it was too complicated for me plus I was suffering from brain fog. What I did was take post-it sticker notes and bookmark certain chapters or pages I wanted to read later on (writing on the post-it what it was about). That helped me get through his book.

I also watched video's which I found easier then reading. I don't know if Buhner has videos, I know Jernigan does.

How can't you read anything?!

I could read everything but I understood nothing!!!! smilewinkgrin

seriously, I kept reading half of a page of ANY article, again... again...

again...

All words looked familiar to me, but they made no sense together.

I could get the meaning of one sentence, but I guess when I reached the middle of the paragraph, I wondered what was the author talking about.

By the end, I had no idea what I read.

Don't worry, it will get better. I got better with my high dose of binders.

Instead of giving LSD to spiders, alchool, etc (that video was great, thanks!), well, my chemical soup was chlorella +bear garlic +MSM.

When I doped myself with binders, my brain finally woke up again and I could understand something else than isolate words.

I used to read like crazy. I remember reading the Game of Thrones books and getting to the third I guess my perfect storm hit and I couldn't follow any of it.
Now with the series out on tv I'm not even going to try .

So many of the Lyme books are so technical ish and I can't read and/or absorb it at all and they are in a stack on the table.

Rawls book Unlocking Lyme is really a good one and I'm wondering if it's really more easily read or it's the progress I've made that makes me feel it's the best book out (it's still unfinished tho)

All of these books are a wonderful explosion of colored stickys hanging out and pages of color highlights!

I also wonder which of my diseases that are getting better are making the reading and brain issues better? You know?
