I'll echo astro's post.
It's very possible you might have two different things going on.
I don't know a lot about
optic nerve issues, although I have had several similar sx that were effectively reduced/eliminated when I addressed yeast/fungal overgrowth. 95% of MDs are absolutely clueless about
nearly everything involving yeast/fungal overgrowth diagnosis and treatment - that SO MANY people are experiencing. It's baffling.
The y/f generally originates in the GI and can grow up the throat and into the head, which is how it can affect eyes, ears, mouth, sinuses and can grow out of orifices and onto skin causing more visible sx... MDs try to treat the skin problems or maybe other specific areas but never think to hit the typical origin of the overgrowth ---the GI.
My y/f-related eye sx were blurry vision, loss of peripheral vision, floaters, light sensitivity, I would wake up with a lot more gunk in the AM, grittiness, dryness, irritation, redness, and stabbing eye pain.
I think the loss of peripheral vision was probably nerve-related - it's much less noticeable now. My Lyme-knowledgeable neurologist (whom I saw for MULTIPLE sx, not just the eye neuropathy) suggested most neuro issues are due to inflammation. I did pretty well with anti-inflammatories but also, just making more progress with y/f treatment and Lyme & Co tx.
I would troubleshooting with a few things you can easily obtain and can easily try - post your results and we can help you with next steps:
- w/ antifungals (try gently rubbing coconut oil over the lid like astro suggests - a little of it will get into the eye, which is what you want. It might not feel great at first but if you get some relief than this is a big clue suggesting y/f). If it's y/f, you'll likely need more than just coconut oil and might need to address overgrowth in the GI, which is a whole other thing - let us know.
- w/ anti-inflammatories (japanese knotweed and burdock root worked great for me but I know many others have been tried successfully - you might want to post a new thread for ideas for natural anti-inflammatories and/or do a search.
Relief might take awhile. But if you don't feel any changes in a week, I'd get to the MD and discuss. You don't want to mess around with the eye.
Hope this is helpful -
