Hi there,


Has anyone gotten rid of the so-called neuropathy/burning sensations.  I believe I do have Lyme and co-infections since those did show up somewhat on Igenyx tests.  I also took Cipro 19 months ago.  It seems that some of the symptoms of that poison are similar.  Anyone with experience with both?

How long were you on the Cipro? So, it started how long after taking Cipro?

I took 500 mg a day for 7 days in late Jan 2016.  I had a horrible upper respiratory virus.  Was fine and healthy prior to that and never recovered.  I probably had crazy symptoms starting in March or April of that year but I was so miserable with the virus that I couldn't sort it all out.

Okay - so this was prior to lyme and co's?

You got the neuropathy in March or April....and then when did you suspect you had lyme?


Hopefully if you were floxed..that it is one of the cases that fully heals with time.

How bad is it? Do you take Gabapentin or Lyrica for it?


It's difficult to sort out the floxing symptoms with the lyme and co symptoms.

My doc suspected lyme in March and started having me test.  There were results that were suspect.  Tested separately for Cos and 2 came back positive.  It is believed that the virus kicked dormant lyme in gear.  I actually had been feeling more tired than usual in summer of 2015 with neck pain, but was functioning very well.  After all of this I have been house bound.  I joined a floxed support group and I must say people have been permanently impaired.  Perhaps they took it for longer and ore often than I, not really sure.

Girlie, I am not taking any drugs. I don't want the side effects of those.

What happens if you take Cipro?

I know a lot of people got messed up taking Propecia.

Cipro causes lots of pain, tendon issues, neurological issues, destroys joints, etc.

I think it's hard to figure out what is causing the neuropathy because Lyme, Bartonella, Babesia, Mold, Candida, alcohol abuse, antibiotics, thyroid and menopause, lack of B-12, too much magnesium, too little magnesium. I just listened to a podcast where they said too much B-12 can cause it too! You can make yourself crazy trying to figure it out. I know! I've been obsessing about it for a long time.

That's probably not comforting, but I'll just say that I'm hit two years of treatment Oct. 15th and I'm 95% better. Nerves take a long time to heal.

The best approach in my opinion is rule out what you can, i.e. make sure you are getting enough B-12 and that you can process it (check for MTHFR mutations), make sure you have enough D, Magnesium, etc. Then get your hormones checked. I think when treating Lyme, it gets worse before it gets better because the toxins release really affect the central nervous system.

Cipro is in the Fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics and comes with a black box warning.

When black box warnings are used:

"The medication can cause serious undesirable effects (such as a fatal, life-threatening or permanently disabling adverse reaction) compared with the potential benefit from the drug. "

The FDA has issued a black box warning on that class of abx - for two risks: 1) tendon rupture 2) peripheral neuropathy (that may be permanent)

The black box warnings are not to be taken lightly.



The problem is you might think you're having symptoms/herxing from the infections (sore tendons or nerve pain..etc) and not stop the drug - resulting in a tendon rupture or neuropathy that is long lasting.

Some LLMD's still do prescribe them but you need to be aware of this risk

I had tingling and numbness in my arm and face for a little while. But, knock on wood, it seems to have left me within the past 2 weeks after 2 months of treatment. However, my walking issues are worse than ever.
