I am a new member on this site. My son works in the New York park system for over fifteen years. In the 90's he discovered a bull's eyed rash on his back but thought he had ringworm. Through the years, he had received many tick bites. Over the past few years he has developed flu like symptoms on and off, also pains in his joints on and off. My son has gone to several doctors and been tested with negative results except for one laboratory which gave him a positive test.

Recently he went to a new doctor and gave him the results and the doctor took his own tests. The doctor told him that the tests would have been out of line for a much younger man but since he was 43 he saw no problem with them. My son becomes very ill with flu like symptoms on a regular basis, even to the point that he has vomiting and headaches.

He is very frustrated because he cannot seem to find a doctor who knows how to treat him or will take him seriously. Could you please let me know the name of a good doctor who is knowledgeable about this disease and would be able to help my son. It is amazing that with the prevalence of this disease in the northeast and the seriousness of not treating it in a timely matter, that the medical profession shies away from dealing with it in the year 2017.

Thank you for any information you can give us to help my son fight this horrible disease.

You will want to find an ILADS trained doctor, as ID Docs (Infectious Disease Doctors) as well as many others believe Lyme is hard to catch and easy to treat, and don't believe in the reality of chronic Lyme--they adhere dogmatically to the IDSA and very narrow definition of Lyme and limited treatment. Thank you for your reply. Could you possibly give me the name or two of a qualified doctor who treats Lyme disease in Suffolk or Nassau County on Long Island? My son lives and works in Suffolk County. as I said, he has been unable to find anyone who treats this disease or who would even recommend someone else.

I am reading a lot of your posts and find them absolutely helpful. I came across one that mentioned sweating. My son has had a problem with sweating and high temperatures. He never had a problem with this until the 90's and we haven't been able to figure this out.

My son was a Park Ranger in Florida and conducted prescribed burns. He said that sometimes when he was driving home he felt like he was going to pass out. This is the reason he has had to leave Florida and move back to Long Island. He tells me he still had a problem with the heat in the summer up there and that on a hot day he has to change his shirts several times. Is this a symptom of Lyme Disease also?

Sounds like Lyme with co infections. I live on Long Island too. There are no llmd's on Long Island. Or any worth seeing that I know of. Oh.. there is one in glen head that charges a fortune. I used one in Connecticut that was pretty good and his fee is very reasonable. Your son can take the ferry there too and either take a cab to his office or he can drive.
