My daughter has cracked and burning lips. I know it isn't from dehydration because she is really compliant about drinking tons of water. Lip balm doesn't help either. Any suggestions?

Whatever you try - she should put it on before bed so it has several hours to work

Btw, PeteZa- we are now on season 3 episode 9 or 10 of Oak Island. I don't want to admit how many episodes my husband and me have watched back to back!

Peppermint, I am laughing at getting you "hooked."

Okay, now if I had a 14 year old here is what I would do..... buy her the best (natural, organic) lipstick that is super light in color.

You know 14 yr olds are going to lick off the flavored stuff so if you get that, get plenty and make sure it is edible.

But, she will feel "older" if she gets lipstick. They have nude and light pinks at the health food stores. She will use that and I think that will do the trick.

It has to be something she will use often.

Is she drinking so much water that her urine is clear? If so, she's drinking too much. I've read that, paradoxically, drinking excessive amounts of water can cause some of the same symptoms seen in dehydration.

If that's not the issue, then I'd suggest some of the Burt's Bees products:

I have allergies and chemical sensitivities, so I'm limited in what I can use. The best thing I've found is Vaniply ointment. It stays on much better than Vaseline. Coconut oil is okay but doesn't stay on as long. I also used a fragrance free lip balm by Dakota Free before I started using Vaniply.

Increase her salt. Is she constipated? Dehydration and constipation go hand in hand. See Dude's post above.
