Hello all!
I know there are no or very limited research indicating that Lyme disease can become resistant to Doxycycline. However, for me it feels exactly like this. I used a too low dosage (300 mg, also sometimes taken close to when I had cheese) for 4 weeks. It worked great in the first two weeks, my symptoms disappeared in three days (burning/tingling in face and feet) and only had some headache now and then left. All my energy back. However, after two weeks unfortunately I forgot to take the pills one day and also slept bad. After this my symptoms returned and further treatment with Doxycycline did not work.
After this I had a break of three days and then got prescribed 400 mg Doxycycline for two weeks. During this period I started to get many new symptoms, the worst being brain fog and back pain but also shaking fingers. I also got a lot of anxiety and depression. I stopped after two weeks since it was only making me worse, I could not imagine it was only Herx reactions.
So, if I have become resistant to Doxycycline, could Minocycline work instead even though it is also part of the Tetracycline family? This is important because it influences at which clinic I should be treated (BCA or Vital Klinik). I have an option where you get IV Clarithromycin (as the only antibiotic) and this sounds a bit interesting since it is part of a completely different antibiotic family.
Thank you a lot in advance, any help is useful!
