From Buhner's bartonella book:
"The tincture of the fresh leaves is the most potent form of the plant as medicine. . . . I would not use a dried plant tincture unless that is all you can find. Traditionally the herb (sometimes the root) is used, either dried or fresh, to make a decoction. For dried, 15 to 30 gram (about 1/2 to 1 ounce) of the dried plant is decocted (that is, briefly boiled), allowed to cool, then consumed. Fresh, 30 to 50 grams of the fresh herb is decocted similarly. Examination of the decocted herb has, however, revealed that it loses much of its antibacterial/antiviral actions upon boiling (which is why the Chinese tend to boil it really, really briefly).
In the protocol for bartonella, he only lists dosages for the tincture: 1/2 tsp 3x day (equal parts houttynia, isatis, alchornea). Woodlandessence sells IHA formula which has these 3 already together in equal parts.
I store my powdered herbs in large glass canning jars in a cabinet away from light. You can get brown glass jars from Mountain Rose Herbs.
