Has anyone else developed major eye dryness with contacts during Lyme and co treatment or illness? My eyes tend to become more blurry as well with contatcs as opppsed to my glasses. Anyone else?

I don't wear contacts/glasses....but I know people have reported having dryness and/or blurriness from LD.


I wonder if you should only be using the glasses instead .. until it gets better?

Yes my wife (who hopefully will soon be improved enough to be commenting herself), cannot wear contacts while she has been sick.. not sure of the exact mechanism of illness that causes this, but they are painfull because her eyes get very dry. She has tried 4-5 different contacts none worked.

She resorted to buying a nice pair of glasses to use in the interim. No contacts for now.

(Btw, eyes are a nerve - Lyme loves irritating nerves so maybe it is just that straightforward).

I don't wear contacts, but I had major eye dryness and also seemed to stop sweating when my symptoms were worst right before my diagnosis. I also had blurriness and was super sensitive to light/noise. It mostly went away after abx.

Yep, same here. Taking out my contacts feels like my eyes have been starving for oxygen

PDXtransplant, I have trouble suffering from dry eyes a lot too, itching and piercing and very sensitive to light. Would be much grateful and happy if you would like to post what abx treatment helped for you, and how long it took?

Wonder if you suffered from head pressures and an aching nose too?

Moose safari--I had the head pressure but not an aching nose. I was on cefdinir and minocycline/doxy for about two months. The head pressure, dry eyes and light sensitivity resolved fairly early in my treatment. I still think I'm not sweating like a normal person, but I've never been a big sweat-er...

Great, many thanks! I havent started any abx treatment yet, but trying to pick up what have worked for other people, hopefully it will turn out to work for me as well...

Yes, I have eye dryness and blurred vision from it too, and I don't even wear contacts! It can be a real pain.

There are eye drops my opthamologist gave me that can be used while wearing contact lenses. They're Refresh Optive mega-3 with flax oil. They say the oil will not build up on the lens.

i have dry eyes and i do not wear contact lenses. it comes and goes. it is an autoimmune process at the eye level. Nothing seems to work for me. Moisture eye drops help but only a little bit.

They just do their itchy thing for a few weeks, then the symptoms disappear... just like that... only to reappear several months later.

Lots of people say stephania root helps, i haven't tried it ...

I haven't worn contacts since before I got sick, but I have had dry eyes - at times so severe I was sure I had Sjogren's syndrome. Also have blurry vision that comes and goes and floaters. I have bartonella with Lyme and ehrlichia. I believe it is very common, especially with bartonella.
