I spent years drowning in mucus. It mysteriously went away when I was taking reflux meds and did not return much after stopping those meds. I also stopped having regular periods just before I started those reflux meds.
I suspect hormones has something to do with it, because even now (2.5 years later), I get stuffy nose and increased mucus when I have menstrual cycles. I have no scientific explanation for this (or many other inexplicable things that happen/have happened to me).
Allergies, mold exposure, silent reflux can all cause mucus. I believe hormone imbalance can, too. I just remembered I've read of pregnant women having non-allergic rhinitis. I just googled it, and voila, I was right.
www.babymed.com/blogs/jaclyn-stewart/stuffy-nose-here-stayIf you are a woman and you are perimenopausal (or getting closer) or have hormone imbalance, then hormones may be why.
I had sinus problems in my teens and twenties, but it was after I got into my thirties and forties that the nasal stuffiness was maddening and I was literally drowning in mucus.
