Rifampin and benzos lorazepam or oxazepam

I think what happens with Rifampin is it makes your body produce tons and tons of enzyme Cp450. High levels of that enzyme greatly reduce effectiveness of many drugs. Some drugs it increases effectiveness.

You should look into more and be careful. Once that enzyme level goes up, it takes about 7-10 days for the interaction effect to wear off.

I had a couple courses of Minocycline and one course of Doxycycline. I didn't get burning stomach during any of those treatments. FWIW - if the benzo you take is on the Rifampin interaction list, i wouldn't touch Rifampin with a 10 foot pole.

I'm not sure what antimicrobials are best when one has gastritis, but I can say Minocycline, Ceftin, Biaxin, and Clindamycin were very effective at making my symptoms go away.

You might start a new post asking for recommendations for treatment for one who has gastritis.

Interestingly when I plug lorazepam with Rifampin into the drug interaction checker - it says no interactions.
This checker usually does pick up on the p450 interactions...

But lorazepam was listed on another site that showed interactions with p450 meds. I can't seem to paste the link to the site here.

the half-life of rifampin taken 300 mg dose is 3-4 hours

Are you taking the benzos once a day? Maybe if Rifampin is taken in the morning...even if there is a drug interaction...it would be reduced substantially by the evening. (12 hours apart)


A 600 mg dose of Rifampin has a half life of 5 hours - so if you do a once daily dosing - then that may be the better option. Take Riffy in the morning, benzo in the evening?

Thank you all. In the Wikipédia tough ir says lorazepam is reduced with rifampin. Dont know i am trapped. Bactrim perhaps?

IDK - what about a once daily dose of Rifampin? 12 hours later it's significantly reduced.

yes it greatly induces CP450 enzymes! Beyond that, it takes about 7-10 days for the enzyme to go back to normal after stopping the med. I would be very careful.

It may throw you into acute benzo withdrawal that may or may not go away by increasing your benzo dose. That is what happened to me with another medication. It was a very crappy week for me waiting for the CP450 to drop so my other meds would work and stop the withdrawal.

Mine was not a benzo, mine was Kratom. An herb with mechanisms similar to a mild opiate.
