Lyme + hyperthyroidism?

Hello lovelies,

I am almost one year into my Lyme disease treatment and have made a lot of progress-so I am very thankful! But recently have been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism.

I actually had hypothyroidism for years and hypothyroidism does run in my family through my maternal grandmother. I started treatment for hypothyroidism with levothyroxine in March 2017, before the Lyme disease diagnosis.

At that time, I was also taking medicine that can slow your thyroid (Lithium). I got off this medication safely.

I started being treated for Lyme in August. When my LLMD retested my thyroid labs this March, I was significantly HYPERthyroid.

At the time, my LLMD said that Lyme disease can affect your thyroid so the levothyroxine medicine is no longer necessary.

Well, I stopped taking the levothyroxine and twice this month I came back as HYPERthyroid.

My LLMD wants me to see an endocrinologist now.

Does anyone with Lyme disease have experience with hyperthyroidism? I know that HYPOthyroidism is common but what about HYPER?

Levo med stays in you 6 weeks.

If your thyroid goes both hyper and hypo with thy med out of the picture for 6 weeks, you already have autoimmune thyroid developed, or your pituitary gland controlling your thyroid is messed up.

You need a COMPLETE thyroid antibody panel - bottom line, no ifs ands or buts about it.

TGab, TPO, TSI all three. Dont confuse tsi with tsh signaling hormone.

I will NEVER understand why Drs are so thyroid cluless..its not that difficult. Endos are sometimes clueless too, and old school /stubborn in their ways..

I just got out of the hospital with atrial fibrillation (rapid, irregular heart, palpitations). They did a thyroid panel (at my requesr smhair) and my T4 came back through the roof. I was put on Tapazole for the thyroid and a beta blocker for the heart. I was officially diagnosed with Lymes a bit over a year ago, but have had it for 6 years or so.
