I have been putting one off for five years - waiting until I feel better. Mother succumbed to colon cancer at a relatively young age.
Several years ago (10 or more years) a Dr with a radio talk show was speaking about the instruments not being sterilized properly.
I'm terribly sorry for the loss of your Mother, Girlie. I don't believe I was aware of that sad event. Indeed, she must have been pretty young, as I assume you to be relatively young, too.
Given what I've read about
various preventative screenings, like most everything else, I'm on the fence. The sterilization issue only further complicates matters.
However, if one is going to have a colonoscopy, getting it sooner is probably better than later.LOL - I'm not very young...(don't be fooled by my Girlie name - it's just what my husband started calling me when I WAS young)
Honestly, I'm a chicken when it comes to 'procedures'. I always think the worst will happen.
So, for the colonoscopy - (besides the Dr. finding a cancerous tumor) - I worry about
perforation of the colon..which is most likely VERY rare.
Also, living in a fairly small city....and previously working at the hospital...I would probably know a few people (nurse assisting Dr., and in recovery room, the Porter...etc) - that bothers me.
The entire 'event' just stresses me out just thinking about
it..not to mention the prep the day before.
