Lyme Antibody Numbers Went Up

Hello,
I was diagnosed with LD 9 years ago. Because they thought I was pregnant, I was given 14 days of Doxy. They told me I was cured. Over the years, I have had almost every LD symptom possible. I never put two and two together to think maybe it was LD. Each thing was treated on its own. After moving to Vegas (from CA), everything has gotten worse. I saw a movie about people with chronic disease, and I thought maybe my issues are from LD.

Anyway, I got my blood tested again. I am still positive for LD, and the test results seem to have changed. Is this normal? Was I never really cured? These results make me think I still have active LD.

Also, if you get a co-infection panel done, did you have to pay for it or was it covered under your insurance? I have Aetna.

Hi Wendy, welcome to the forum! Your best bet at this point would be trying to see an llmd if you are able to. It could very well be that the lyme wasn't fully treated the first go around, especially if it was already well-established in the body. If you have a multi-systemic set of symptoms it is definitely wise to really carefully look into lyme and coinfections, especially if you already have a track record with that infection.

Hopefully others can provide some answers in regards to coinfections testing, unfortunately I think one often has to pay out of pocket for those tests. And the testing often leaves much to be desired, and just because one comes up negative doesn't mean the infection isn't there. It can often come down to a clinical diagnosis.

Stephen Buhner also has some herbal protocols that might be worth checking out. He has some good info on his website, and his books are also really great as well. Dr Richard Horowitz also has a great set of informative books on these diseases. Good resources, they've helped me a lot.

Hi Wendy. I did post on the other thread you posted on.

As Sebreg mentioned - it's likely you weren't treated sufficiently the first time around.

Subsequent WB testing can't really tell us if we 'still ' have an active infection...as we can continue to produce the antibodies long after we're healed.
But, what is telling - is your continued symptoms.

And...as Sebreg pointed out - the coinfections often aren't covered by insurance unfortunately.
Many LLMD's do clinical diagnoses of the coinfections...and treat accordingly.

Thank you. I think 9 years ago, on the West Coast at least, there was limited knowledge about LD. The doctor followed the standard protocol, at the time. Over the years, my health issues popped up randomly. I think the stress of moving to a new place, with new environmental issues, has brought all the symptoms out.

Thankfully, I’ve tried to keep up on LD research and talk. I think I didn’t put my ongoing symptoms together, because I didn’t want to admit what was truly going on. No one wants this, and especially in the past, whenever I brought it up as a possibility. I got the “that’s dumb” look from doctors. I’ll look into the people you’ve mentioned and keep look for a dr with LD experience.
