For some reason,(per one of my links), the moose population is thriving on the island of Isle Royal in Lake Superior. They need to figure out why besides the lack of wolves on this island.
This island, 20 miles of Minnesota's coast is uninhabited other that a few US park employees, and a limited number of backpackers. It has only one pair of wolves there. That said, they should study the ticks there, or possibly lack of ticks. Its naturally air -conditioned from lk superior, no real heat waves, no pulution, no contaminated ground water from the mainland. It is subject to slight contaminated air currents from Canadian paper mill air pollution, thats it. Perfect place for good habitation as its the most naturally preserved place in continental US. No deer on the island either, deer carry a brain worm transferable to moose.
On mainland MN., 20 miles away by water, the moose population like in the NE, is dying and is half what it was in 2006 from 6000 to 3000.
