I had unprotected sex with my girlfriend about 3 months ago and she is now experiencing symptoms. I did some research and found that lyme was said to be sexually transmittable? Is this true? I don't think I gave my exes it so I don't understand how she'd get it. i am freaking out not knowing if this is true or not. Please give me some input. Thank you

From what I have read, Lyme is transmissible through blood and semen. http://www.anapsid.org/lyme/bach.html

As sandyfeet said, though, a great many people who harbor the infections do not show symptoms. It's impossible to know for sure if she got it from you, and it also doesn't matter. I'm sorry to hear that she's having symptoms, and I hope that with your head start, you can help her with resources and treatment options, if she does in fact have Lyme.

Yes, it is transmittable. If she treats it soon though she can probably nip it in the bud.

A small study conducted in 2018 found viable spirochetes in vaginal secretions and semen of 12 subjects who were either on or had been on antibiotics at the time of testing. Although this study does not prove transmission, it makes me wonder how great of a leap it is to consider the possibility of spirochetes being transmitted between partners.

But I dont think my ex of 3 years had it. And I had way more sexual contact with her than my new gf. Could it be possible that since I'm sicker and have more lyme, that it gave my new partner a larger amount of spirochettes, making her sicker faster?

ya its in saliva and tears even. dont feel too bad tho shr could have got it from a spider bite , a skeeter bit u then her lots of scenarios. i showed my girlfriends blood under the microscope and she asked all the questions and led her own way. to treat is her choice alone. in the meantime strap up a jimmy hat you dont want to reinfect yourself or lose any gains swapping bugs .

When humans mix thier fluids together, we give each other stuff - dental decay bacteria, the flu, and freaking Lyme. We just do. Your girlfriend might be disappointed, but definitely no need to linger on the sexually-transmitted element. Most people don't know that Lyme is transmissible sexually, or that it's also transmitted by fleas, mosquitos, mites, and potentially other sources she's been exposed to in her life. Before I was diagnosed, I almost certainly gave it to my partner sexually, as well as to my child via gestation and breastmilk. That said, there are lots of other ways to contract these illnesses, and they are opportunistic infections that can lurk in the body, dormant or only vaguely symptomatic, for decades without creating illness. I read once that half of Martha's Vineyard tests positive for Lyme, but of course very few of those people are ill. Your ex-girlfriend probably contracted Lyme from you but her system is strong enough so far that she has not had symptoms yet, and may never. And your current girlfriend might have gotten a tick bite as a toddler that only now is causing symptoms. It's not really possible to say. We're all giant walking microbe habitats, so while it makes sense to protect your partners to some degree, there's only so much you can do.

A lot of the llmd’s do believe it can be passed on sexually.
It’s pretty much accepted it’s passed on from mother the fetus...and recommend abx during pregnancy.

Everyone (in my opinion) is responsible to take precautions for themselves when it comes to sexual activity.

After I tested positive and started talking to my husband about being tested - one day he said something about did I remember his bullseye rash he had many years ago.
I had no recollection - he was talking like 10-15 years ago.

Here I was worried about passing it to him - when he prob has it from years earlier.
He subsequently tested positive.

I prob gave him Bartonella - as I have had many many cats in my life along with scratches, bites and flea bites.

So - please don’t feel guilty about it

I wouldn’t try to analyze - it’s also about her immune system handling it.. or not.

Heck - who knows - maybe she got a tick bite and never saw it.

The point that bluelyme raise is interesting to me.

In a relationship of 2 persons infected. How concerned should we be of "SWAPPING" bugs?
I mean, it was proven that spirochetes are in saliva.
So following that logic, persons could be swapping spirochette, babesia etc from simply kissing.

If that's the case. Anyone with Lyme is officially completely ****ed with the concept of intimacy with a partner.

Even though it’s thought to be likely passed on via sexual contact that doesn’t mean it’s automatically passed on by kissing.

I believe HIV is not known to be passed on by kissing - unless maybe the person has an open sore.
And the virus can be seen in the saliva.

Right - we don’t know for sure about kissing.
I know people who say because it’s in the saliva - then it automatically can be transmitted via kissing - but just wanted to point out that’s not a “given” - and an example is HIV.

So - not saying it can’t be - just saying it’s not a definite yes it can be.

They need to study it more - what the heck are they waiting for???

Hearing that the bacteria is in bodily fluids like tears and saliva is down right scary. I’m spending thousands of dollars to get treatment but what happens if I met someone put at a bar one night, simply kiss them and BAM my Lyme’s back! Is there anything we can do to help strengthen our bodies to prevent future exposure? With being on LDN long term or being on things like Cats Claw long term help? I know I have the detoxing gene mutation so I’m already at a disadvantage.
