It depends on the state you live in, and/or your health insurance carrier. There are quite a few Lyme friendly states that mandate continued Lyme Rx coverage for as long as the doctor prescribes it for, and within individual policy coverage. I was on IV for a total of 16 months continuous, and everything was covered 100% after I met my annual deductible.
One way around IV high costs if you are not covered is Rocephin IM, that costs like other generic Rx co-pays.
I always say that IV treatment for lyme should be considered only for the most severe cases, or for patients that cannot tolerate any oral ABX. It's not a silver bullet and usually 1 month is not long enough or cost effective.
