Kind of a cool story a father went out of his way to develop a new product to prevent ticks and lyme after both him and his son contracted lyme, but it seems his son got it the worst after the bacteria spread to his brain stem.

What's everyone think of this spray made from Picaridin though, safe? Considering deet has it's has it's risks, even permethrin. Global Lyme Alliance partnered up with him, so maybe it's a better alternative to deet and permethrin?

Charlie - I don’t know much about tick repellents - I just use an essential oil (rose geranium) diluted with water and witch hazel.

I don’t know how effective it is - as we don’t see a lot of ticks here. (I’ve only ever seen one)

What risks are there with Permethrin?

Have seen and used other brands with Picaridin (for skin) last five years. Dont know whats new about this guys product (?).

Picaridin vs Deet? On a toxic level for human skin....(?).

Plastic and nylon gear safe? >Deet eats away plastic and nylon gear, Pic wont.

Permetherin, the insecticide, is for non -skin use in humans (clothing, gear), but for skin use in animals, pets ect. Its works great on boots and socks.

I'm not sure, but any chemical just meant for just the clothes can't be good if you're sweating on a hike, fishing, or hunting, some of that chemical seeps through your clothes because of the sweat and then touches your skin. I've heard a few outdoorsmen worried about permetherin for that reason. I mean if you're just spraying your boots, I can't see there being any problem, but many do their whole outfit. I was just wondering what everyone thought of Picardin, I don't know much about it. I've used Permetherin a lot in the last few years on my clothes...
