Cyst busters (Malarone?), Also help interpret test results!

I am currently taking Doxy (300mg daily, trying to get back up to 400mg) and Azithromycin (500mg daily) for about 3 weeks now after finishing my Babesia protocol but have continued to take Malarone while waiting for my lab results to come back.

Today I received the results. I did Igenix and MDL as I always have - Igenix still says positive igM for Bart (not hensellae though, Vinsonii and then some unspecified subspecies, identical to my last test in Feb) and negative igG, and for MDL has negatives for babesia Microti (was positive igM in Feb), Duncani (by PCR), Lyme c6 peptide, but showed 4 igG bands and 1 igM band (41) on the blot (previously just had 1 igM band (41) and 1 igG (41) in Feb.

So while I believe the Babs has been dispatched, I am wondering if the treatment has unlocked the remaining Lyme hiding in my system or if my immune system is reacting to the new medications. Is Malarone (atovaquone/Proguanil) considered a cyst buster? If not, what else is out there for options besides Tindamax/Flagyl for cyst busting capabilities?

I got a typical borrelia herx from malarone. Proguanil is an anti-folate similar to dapsone or bactrim, so it's not entirely surprising that it kills borrelia.

Atovaquone specifically targets the malaria mitochondria, so I wouldn't expect it to do much to borrelia, but who knows?

If you want a cyst-buster, try taking depakote. I had to stop taking it due to the severe herx it caused, and also it released a lot of formerly dormant bartonella.

I also worry about false positives with these being almost exclusively antibody tests. And one would think if Bartonella igM were positive for so long that some igG would develop. That being said I’m just going to go by symptoms.

Isn’t mepron(atovaquone) considered to be a cyst buster by some? If so, then the atovaquone in malarone should have some possible action... I hope.

IgM wouldn’t be a false positive - it may linger before converting to IgG - so that’s why we go by symptom resolution - not testing to gauge when we’re done treating.

Dr J wrote about IgM persisting in Lyme for many months - to years - he described it as a continual reactivation.
