Adaptogenic herbs can be great, but start slowly with tiny doses. If your adrenal system is depleted, then you may react strongly as your system produces more hormones. A drop of holy basil kept me awake for 48 hours, and a drop of eleuthero made me sleep for 24! Everyone reacts to them differently, so it's worth buying a few small bottles of tinctures and seeing what works. My favorite is undoubtedly ashwagandha, and DGL (licorice with the blood pressure-affecting compounds removed) helps me as well.
I also used an adrenal glandular for a few months after a crash, and it was helpful but only at a small dose - a fourth of a pill! Any more than that would make me feel awful - headache, kidney pain, tachycardia, etc. - so do what your body says. Get a hormone-free glandular, like Dr. Wilson's Adrenal Rebuilder.
Don't use any stimulants right now, like caffeine. Some doctors will prescribe a steroid for short-term use, even for those with Lyme, if the adrenal issue is at a life-threatening stage. Others will never prescribe a steroid because doing so stimulates the adrenal system and drains it even more, so you feel better for a time but are left with a bigger crash later. Also avoid stressful people and situations, including suspenseful books and movies. You really cannot be wasting any cortisol, adrenaline, etc. right now!
Also be sure that you are doing well nutritionally. Your body can't make more hormones if it does not have the right ingredients! Keep your minerals and omega 3 fatty acids plentiful.
Make sure your other systems are in balance, too - pituitary hormones, thyroid, etc. They're all connected and easily throw each other off-course.
Really the best thing for your adrenals is time and rest. There's no quick fix that's actually a fix.
