why does society make me work when they know I'm sick?

I ask to be laid off, I go on unemployment, I apply for disability and then they say "you're not sick. you can work. go back to work."

Then I go back to work. I work hard for 3 years. I do my absolute best. I get stressed. I get anxiety. I have a violent outburst, and then they wonder what's wrong with me. I told you what's wrong with me. I'm SICK. I have a disease. I told you. You didn't believe me. I'm not healthy. You don't let me get treatment. You make me work through being sick. It gets worst. Then I lose it. Then you're surprised when I lose it. You're surprise by my violent outburst. Is that fair?

It’s nuts... how were treated.

I’m preparing to go back to work after over 5 years being off.
And the Manager is acting like she doesn’t want me back.
It wouid be difficult enough if she was greeting me with open arms - but the way she’s acting just adds stress to an already stressful experience.

So here we are - sick AND broke.
It’s not right

Sorry to hear that girlie. Society really needs to recognize our disease. We've waited long enough.

Best of luck on restarting your job. Just take it one day at a time.

I hope you get some relief from the stress related to work. I'm in a similar dilemma. I've been sick for over five years. At one point, I had to quit the highest paying job I'd ever had. I couldn't manage the workload due to extreme headaches (15 days out of every month) and nerve pain. It was like being stabbed in one eye while having that side of your head electrocuted (nonstop usually for three days straight). When this happens in an office environment, you feel like you are on another planet. I have no other source of income, so I keep taking consultant positions in IT. Work is such a major issue with this disease. Wish you some relief!

gfields: Really great post. I read it at the time it was written, but I've been on radio silence a bit, over the past month or two. You perfectly summarized the situation for many of us. For me, such a post helps to remind me that I'm not imagining it and I'm not alone.

Cignet: While I would never want anyone to be sick, I'm especially sad when such things happen to young folks like yourself. I don't want to dwell on the negative (though it's easy for me to do in my own life), so I'll just say I respect and admire your internal strength. As I do for everyone, I pray for your release from illness. To borrow a quote that I've used previously: "If you're going through hell, keep going!"
