Hey guys,

Just got my most recent set of results from MDL labs.

Negative on elisa and PCR for both babesia and bartonella.

Negative for Lyme on Elisa. Negative on western blot IgM (zero bands). Positive on western blot IgG (5 bands, 18, 41, 58, 66, 93).

Dr K interprets this as a residual/past infection. I do not have any IgM bands. I do not test positive on Elisa (which is very sensitive i.e. low false negatives, but not specific/high false positives). Clearly no active infection. But I have 5 IgG bands.

Dr. K believes these residual spirochtes are what triggered my autoimmune issue. He thinks IVIG is the best treatment for me, and we can try antibiotics later (I was allergic to bicillin when we tried it) to kill the residual spirochetes, but it may not even be necessary.

Dr K is a total genius. I would never question his opinion. I have the utmost respect for him.

I'm just curious what others think about about no IgM/ negative Elisa. Anyone else test positive only for IgG and still respond to abx or feel they have an active infection? What about Elisa? Elisa is very sensitive from everything I've read, and I tend to trust a negative result.

Re: IgG bands showing up - some LLMD's consider it older infection but can still be an active infection.

Re: Elisa/IFA - I had a negative one...and then a positive western blot several months later.....elisa does have false negatives.

What have you done for treatment thus far? Have you treated lyme, and/or bart, and/or babesia?

I did Bicillin 10 weeks before I developed serum sickness. Did 30 days doxy a few years ago. Did Buhner Herbs (jkw, andrographis, cats claw) for several months. Never really noticed anything from any of the treatments except for the serum sickness

Hmmm - interesting. So you’ve not herxed - when treating?

What does serum sickness look like?
Is there a test for it?

Never had a herx.

The serum sickness...I get really really bad pain across my whole body. I mean every muscle and every joint, to the point where I almost went to the ER. Also developed a rash on my feet

You pose a very good question about the IgGs. I have been told a number of times positive IgGs could still mean the infection is still there, which throws me. Then. like Girlie, I have a positive IgM on Lyme spefific bands a few months later.

That whole subject is confusing to me.

For reference my labcorp elisa’s have always been negative, positive Igenex Elisa, and very high c6 elisa through mdl (twice - the second one after some treatment was still high but not as high as the first). Did your llmd do c6 elisa?

And my igenex wb bands are almost identical for igm & igg. Usually my wb is totally neg through labcorp & quest.

Yup Running Wild. Its confusing, esp because there's no real consensus. According to Dr K, and this makes sense, but he typically views just IgG as a past/residual exposure (i'm paraphrasing but I think thats his view in most cases, but dont quote me). IgM + IgG would indicate an active exposure. I'm curious as to whether he believes Elisa would be positve in a residual infection, gotta ask him. I'm guessing no.


k07, my c6 elisa was negative both times.

What do they say about the self administered (gut skin/fat shots) immunoglobulins? I think its a little cheaper and you dont pay for their time.
