I started rifambutin and clarithromycin for bartonella today. After one dose I’m herxing. I’ve never herxed or had progress on treatment before so this great! I’m wondering what to expect when it comes to how long the herx lasts and should I expect to feel better once The herx ends??

How do you know you are herxing?

It could be an abx side effect ...

Is it Rifampin or Rifabutin?

Rifampin herxes weren’t too bad for me but Rifabutin herxes were very bad.
Almost going to hospital bad.

Rifabutin and I feel achey and like I am coming down with the flu which I’m assuming is a herx

Could be. If you pause abx, wait a couple of days and take again, do you feel the same?

could well be herx - esp if other symptoms you normally attribute to lyme/bart flare as well

most advocate going slow, to begin with, and enhancing detoxification along with treatment to mitigate herx

in terms of duration - most LLMD's tend to treat bart with those for at least 4 months as a general rule - or 1-2 months after symptoms have cleared
