Im on Flagyl due to an unrelated infection to lyme and Bart. My anxiety is through the absolute roof. I have a bad burning sensation in my chest, neck and mouth which seems obvious to be from the anxiety. The last 4 nights its been a nightmare to sleep. Very uncomfortable. Anybody ever on Flagyl been like this??? I know Flagyl is a known cyst buster. It feels as though my stomach is gonna jump out of my throat.
Sounds like your bartonella is flaring due to being on flagyl, which is known to reduce biofilms and wake up persister cells, aka round body forms.
So what I'm suggesting is, if you're reducing the biofilm protective layer and you're exposing bartonella bacteria cells amongst other coinfections and borrelia to be killed off by the antibiotic and your immune system, yes you're going to herx big time. If you're herxes consist of anxiety, meaning it's affecting you neurologically, I'd say your dominant infection right now is bartonella. That's how it was for me, when I herxed from borrelia or babesia die off, didn't seem to cause me anxiety at all. Maybe it did somewhat, but nowhere near as bad as the neuro herxes with bartonella.
Many lyme patients experience the same thing when taking disulfiram, both are known to be used as antabuse, both seem to be similar drugs and do similar things when treating lyme. For many lyme patients, flagyl was the first drug that took them out of wheel chairs... Fast forward two decades, what ya know, Disulfiram has started to do the same thing, but Disulfiram seems to be 4x powerful than Flagyl, that's why many lyme patients start micro dosing first
https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/father-bedbound-by-lyme-disease-is-back-on-his-feet-due-to-a-drug-for-alcoholism-110955745.htmlAs Dr. K put it, Disulfiram does hit Bartonella ok, somewhat partially, but from what most lyme patients are reporting, and what Dr. K and Dr. L are doing now, is they're pairing up Disufliram with another bartonella drug at low dosage to treat this coinfection. So what you'd probably want to do is, pair Flagyl up with lets say Mino or Doxy...
https://youtu.be/q6dlpvbuxrq?t=296And what everyone is saying up above, yes detoxing can help, taking warm epsom salt baths, not hot, or can increase herxing. Kal's Magnesium Glycinate can help reduce your anxiety levels. If you're getting any stinky smells and odor, some report the common cat piss/ammonia or asparagus smell, like I did here
https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=30&m=4151972#gsc.tab=0I think it's good to get on L-Ornithine by Now or l-ornithine l-aspartate by allergy research group, both help get rid of ammonia...
For whatever reason, when bartonella dies, it releases some really bad ammonia... Unlike die off I've ever experienced from borrelia or babesia... Bartonella is one sinister pathogen... Many lyme patients and many Doctors make the mistake into thinking all the ammonia is from overuse of longterm antibiotics that is causing liver failure, nope, just die off from bartonella. Hense the nickname the great imitator...
Now not everyone gets the bad smell, especially if you're in the beginning of lyme treatment and big herxes come and go rarely, my hunch is, from my experience and others, as you get closer to remission, some herxes can be quite severe. I assume it all depends to if you've targeted babesia effectively enough, amongst other coinfection, for a lot of lyme patients the babesia pathogen is making it hard to kill bartonella and borrelia, as we all have to remember, all of these pathogens work synergistically keeping our immune system down. After I targeted babesia with primaquine and rotating in coartem, it was as if a free fall of bacteria just started dieing off in loads aftwerwards... Sadly I ended up in the hospital for a few days due to severe herxing, I went to heavy in dosage, so be careful with Flagyl...
As for the
nightmares, aka night terrors, yes quite common with Bartonella, I used to get them very very bad on nights when I was herxing severly from bartonella 12 months ago. It was easy to pinpoint which coinfection was causing it, due to the flared up red marks on my shoulders after a hot shower, along with the ammonia smell in my urine, along with intrusive thoughts and other lovely symptoms that come along with Bartonella.
If you're up to after your anxiety dies down, lower your flagyl dosage with a pill splitter or get off of it... You can do a test, I see a lot of lyme patients reporting the same thing over again over again who are infected with bartonella on the facebook group "beating bartonella." Take flagyl again, then jump in a hot shower or hot bath, look for any red stretch marks in the mirror. They'll stay visual for about
15 minutes or so after the warm temps... I assume this doesn't work for everyone, but I think it can be a great way to diagnose yourself that you have a bartonella infection. For me the red marks were in front of my shoulder delts, could be because bartonella likes hanging out in the under arm pits of the lymph nodes, I seen other lyme patients report them aroudn their ankles, thights, and a lot of times on stomach or back.
Bartonella is one weird pathogen, a lot of my bartonllea symptoms stayed dormant for the last 9 years of lyme treatment for me, severe bartonella symptoms started finally poking it's head out when I first tried Disulfiram, up until that point I didn't even know what anxiety felt like or even an intrusive thought was, I never really suffered from anxiety...

The warnings on drugs.com are very clear not to consume any type of alcohol while taking Flagyl, including meds or foods that contain propylene glycol. Any chance you have ingested something like that? It should not be taken by anyone with any type of fungal disorder or any kind of stomach disorder.
Highly unlikely related to glycol considering the symptoms she's describing are like clock work to everyone else who has bartonella and gets on flagyl or disulfiram, same old same old, night terrors and anxiety. Get on magnesium glyciante and it will help reduce them... As months go bye with your longterm antibiotic treatment, if the anxiety and night terrors are reducing to just mild nightmares or strange dreams, anxiety reduces as well, guess what? That's how you know it's not a side effect but just the traditional herxing we all get like, again "clockwork!" Sadly, this bartonella infection can also trick your mind into worrying about
a lot of things when you're herxing, thinkig it's this or that... It's good to back off, detox, let your body recover at times, especially if you're getting neuropathy, especially if you're getting neuropathy in the brain.
