that's an interesting occurrence
typically the body had mechanisms to keep important chemicals within acceptable ranges - for instance, while exercising much more will be produced compared to resting - but cannot be allowed to build up in the blood but I have to admit to being somewhat ignorant in the details of how this is managed in the case of CO2. perhaps by simple diffusion through the lungs being higher when the concentration is higher - or perhaps by some more metabolically active route.
it reminds me somewhat of what I have read about chronically ill people with Lyme / CFS like illnesses - where fibrin deposits inside their blood vessels reduce the rate of absorption of oxygen - resulting in the blood oxygen level not dropping as fast as normal when that person holds their breath.
in the case of CO2 - the opposite seems to be happening - but i wonder if they could be connected by a common mechanism ?
