Now diagnosed with EDS Classic

I have been sick the last 5 years with lyme and coinfection. I got into remission 2016 for 6 months then relapsed bad. When i relapsed I ignored everything lyme, treatment etc and watchd my body suffer immensly dropped significant weight malnourished pain fatigue constant infections I thought I was going to die.Now eating better and looking after myself bit better I am healthier weight but still sick.

Ive now been diagnosed with ehlers danlos classic and prior to illness the only typical EDS symptom i had was i was born with very hypermobile EDS bendy fingers and toes but no dislocations no sublux no stretchy skin etc. Now this last year my health still extremly poor my skin is unbeliably stretchy my skin wound healing slow etc etc. Without a doubt i now have all the classic eds symptoms.

What im trying to figure out is when i relapsed from lyme the eds symptoms came in suddenly.

I truly believe this was infection driven as my Lyme started in thailand where babesia common. Am i in denial and it truly is EDS or has lyme caused this? Does anyone know?

i had read that Lyme cases all the symptoms of EDS by damaging the collagen and elastin fibers in our skin and musculature and tendons etc - but its not really the same as EDS - which is technically a genetic disorder. instead, this is a kind of acquired EDS.

if you are borderline genetic - then yes i can see inflammation from Lyme et al pushing it over the edge. inflammation => collagen/ protein breakdown.

i would get the genetic test if you have not had that already

buhner has a collagen protection protocol in his Lyme books - i think i would try that in either case

Thanks for all the messages. I was diagnosed by the top EDS consultant here in UK without genetic tests he said was no point as he is 100% confident based on symptoms that I have EDS Classic. Especially considering my unclde and his son have EDS Classic and my mum in hypermobile but not EDS diagnosed as she isnt severe. Maybe I should get the genetic tests just to make sure.

Anyway I havent treated lyme in years. When i relapsed I lost my home health wife who was abusive to me got in alot of debt I basically was so weak I couldnt even read up on anything. If I treat lyme again it would need to be buhner or something cheap as im financially in a mess. I honestly feel the lyme has done some serious damage to my collagen or like you say its been enough to switch EDS. I think i will add the buhner collagen protocol as per your suggestions then take it from there.Im hoping i can climb out this mess as I have son to be here for

I also hv eds and wasnt diagnosed until 2020 actual and I'm 28 yrs old now.i had flexible joints etc my whole life bt now stiff joints and doc could not figure out y baffled lyme maybe?? My skin is stretchy somewhat bt never really noticed until the lyme and weight loss. My skin looks a little more shiny arms legs etc or elasticity wise u can tell. I just started a collagen powder thinking It my help. I took have easy bruising trouble heading scars tooth extractions etc. Never was an issue before actually until lyme beat me down. Glutathione was only thing took scars away within weeks tbh

Medical Nerd sounds exactly the same as me - stiffjoints, tooth extractions, strecthy skin etc. Sorry to hear your suffering also its hellish is it.

Buhners collagen protection protocol from his Healing Lyme (Second edition)
in addition to the core protocol take :

-Vitamin B complex, should include all b vitamins esp B5, B6, B12 and Folic acid = 1x daily
-Vitamin E - 400-800IU daily
-Zinc - 25-50mg daily
-copper 1-2mg daily ( unless you have a known issue with copper toxicity)
-Hyaluronic Acid - 1 tbl daily ( can really help a lot)
-Bone broth - ideally beef - check online for how to
-a strong infusion of Nettle, Oatstraw, Horsetail, parsley - add 1 tablespoon of each to a -quart of hot water steep for 4hrs and consume 1 quart/day
-Echinacea Augustifolia - tincture - 1tspn 3-5x / day
-Propolis, royal jelly, bee pollen - 1tpsn of each 1x daily
-Pine pollen tincture - 1/4 tspn 2x daily
-Pueria Lobata tincture - 1/2 tsn 3x daily
