Serious question

I couldn't afford an llmd even if I tried. I have 3 kids and money was tight back then. Now I'm saving to see an llmd harder when I had to go full time down to 10-20 hrs a week. My question is why does everyone choose to see and llmd . Is it because you all feel like they can help u manage these tick borne illnesses better? Has anyone on this forum seen an llmd only for diagnosis bt then managed it all themselves once they gt diagnoses(it's cheaper)? I feel like I'm the only one that has tried to manage this myself without an llmd due to $ and stuff. Is anyone confident in managing this themselves without seeing an llmd or does it give everyone a little more comfort? I'm just curious if I'm the only one who hasn't seen an llmd and spend $ is it because self treating isn't enough. Everyone pls give oppinions thanks

Great to see so many replies to this post. I feel better knowing some ppl self treat with herbs like me. I agree with having to see a doc or llmd to perscribe abx and such. My regular primary care doc prescribes doxycycline and that was ONLY if my lyme test came BK positive going on cdc criteria of course which is the sad part .

I self treat with herbs. I do have a Lyme literate doctor mainly to do labs, help me troubleshoot, Rx antifungals and antiparasitics, and have access to discounted supplements. I pay $150-300 per visit 3-4 times a year.

I have never treated with abx except for 7 days of minoxycline in the beginning.

I choose ABX and was not about to "toxcify" myself, so I let a LLMD do that for me LOL.

With the LLMD, I used a LOT of ABX at once, it would be crazy to do that on your own.

Unless one studied optional Lyme treatments for a long time, the initial decision as to what route to take I found overwhelming, my brain was fried enough as it was.

I am entirely self-treating - with lifestyle interventions, herbs, and at times ABX.

I am in the UK and LLMD's are thin on the ground here.

I have seen 4 infectious disease experts that have the best standing in the national health service and in private practice and have been singularly unimpressed.
2 of the 4 were just plain offensive to my very sick partner.
very much a "I know best " attitude - but defensive, when asked questions and not able to say "I'm sorry simply, don't know".

my main issue with seeing LLMD's here is that the cost is high and I have little confidence in their ability to treat me any more successfully than I can treat myself.

so i have spent the last 5 years learning everything I can about this condition and the possible differential diagnosis for it - trying to get to the bottom of this illness mysefl.

there is a wealth of information out there now :
many books on the subject - eg Horowitz, Buhner etc
presentations by leasing experts like Breischwerdz and Burrascano etc
100's of academic papers on PUBMED etc
discussions on forums such as this one - ( though i find these useful i use them mainly for patient experiences and discussion, i prefer to go direct to the source for key information)

i can access all the tests i wish to separately and i can purchase antibiotics online if i wish to do so.

I feel am reasonably well equipped to do this, but I would say it helps if you are a certain type of a person if you wish to go down this route. It's not for everyone.

AllDayChemist - I purchased from them. You don't need a Dr. script for them....they may ask for one...but you just ignore.
