Fluconazole Die Off?

My integrative did some extensive bloodwork and found that I am positive for candida.

I've been feeling pretty terrible for the last couple of months, but after starting Fluconazole I feel even worse which started around day 5 or 6.

So two questions..
1. He has me taking 1 pill a day for 7 days, then breaking for three weeks. So basically one week out of a month I take one a day.. is this enough??

2. Is it typical to not start experiencing die off until day 6? The first several days I felt no different, but now I feel totally exhausted and just am unable to concentrate. It's terrible. I feel worse than I've felt in a long time and it's scary.

PS- I regularly tested for candida in the past and was never positive while on antibiotics. I am not currently taking any antibiotics for Lyme. Actually not treating lyme at all right now, just mold with CSM.

The fluconazole could be killing off candida but also the mold you mentioned, if you had some colonized somewhere. Building up a die-off reaction over a few days sounds reasonable to me. Since your microbiome is being altered by this drug, it makes sense to me that your neurotransmitter production might be affected, therefore shutting you down physically and mentally. Sorry you're feeling so wretched. How is your doctor recommending you manage the overload, other than the pulsing schedule? Are you tolerating the cholestyramine well?

That's Dude, I apprecaite that!

Saraeli - He didn't recommend anything to manage the overload and since I only have one dose left before a 3 week break, I haven't mentioned it to him, just powering through. It's also so hard for me to tell sometimes if this is truly a herx or if my symptoms are just flaring and that's what sucks so much.

He kept telling me that based on my results (high TGF Beta1, high MMP9, high CRM, low VIP) that he is really concerned that I have something other than mold issues and that he is missing something. I thought about making an entirely new post to see if anyone had any thoughts about that.

I am doing ok with the CSM. I was taking it 3 times a day without many issues, but kept missing dosages and kind of gave up so he said just take one dose every night and build a routine around that for now.

What candida test was it? Curious bc this has been on my mind lately.

I did herx on Fluconazole. I took it daily for 2 months and was then switched to 3 days a week (Fri-Sun) and started Nystatin. I started Fluconazole in Jul 2019 and Nystatin in Nov 2019 and continue to take both.

I checked my notes, and I experienced a lot of symptoms, but I was also having terrible MCAS and was unmasking again from mold exposure, plus I was passing lots of ropeworm at the time. I did put in my notes that I had noticeable improvement after adding and getting to full dose Nystatin.
