Does Goldenseal cause a herx reaction??? Or is it just not working ?

Started taking goldenseal because - having to pee a lot , severe bad pelvic pain, burning when peeing , dehydration, etc. And I’m beginning to think it’s a UTI , perhaps Chlamydia or mycoplasma causes it. And so decicded to start taking goldenseal which I have and the pelvic pain is still here and worsening .

Goldenseal is one of the berberine containing herbs.

berberine is a pretty strong antimicrobial topically - and often causes strong herx like reactions when taken orally by people with lyme or lyme like symptoms.

note - berberine containing herbs act mainly in the digestive tract when taken orally as v little berberine is absorbed systemically.
As a result although a berberine-containing herb might have a place in an overall protocol for some infections ( mainly the ones that have a tendency to form a reservoir of infection in the lining of the gut) other herbs that act more systemically might be more appropriate for suspected UTI.
