Is Great Plains or Real Time a better test for mold?

They are both used by mold doctors. Great Plains is the newer one, is cheaper, and tests for some mycotoxins not included by Realtime. Realtime is covered by Medicare and Tricare, so if you have those insurances, I would use them.

I had 2 tests by Realtime and 1 by Great Plains (not at the same time). I have heard some doctors have used both tests simultaneously and gotten different results. Just this week, I heard Dr MR mention that he has moved more towards Realtime and finds it correlates better for his patients.

I actually prefer the urine mycotoxin test from Vibrant Wellness. I did the Great Plains test and Vibrant side by side. Vibrant is far superior in my opinion. I like the layout of the results better, and they test for a broader range of mold species.

Vibrant Wellness is the one my LLMD used to test me 2 months ago, I was surprised because I thought she'd use Great Plains, but I trust her judgement. I think it was like $350 or something out of pocket.

Everything came back as really low levels in the "In Control" category, which I was really surprised by, considering the amount of moldy and water damaged apartments I've lived in over the past 20 years (at least 4 with known water damage). There were a lot of different types of mold in my body, but my Dr. didn't seem concerned because they were so low. So I guess either my body is able to detox out mold well, and/or all the Lyme treatment and binders have been helping this whole time.

Recently, someone posted some links to online Q&A sessions with Dr MR. in one of those, I am pretty sure he mentioned Vibrant Wellness and that he did not recommend that lab due to questions about the validity or accuracy.

I had never heard of that lab until he mentioned it.

I have never heard of such products. However, a strange smell appeared in my apartment last month. This happened after the pipe burst in the bathroom. I had to ask for help from water damage repair. Moreover, I bought a special set of devices to detect the presence of mold in the air. I don’t remember its exact name. this filter test was designed to determine the presence of fungal spores in specific locations. It was also the best option for me since the mold was hidden in hard-to-reach places. It was difficult to detect it visually.

HannaRIO, I'm sorry to hear that you had a water damage event. The health consequences of mold exposure can be significant and expensive!

The tests mentioned earlier in this thread (RealTime and Great Plains) measure mycotoxins (the toxins produced by mold) in the urine of someone who is having symptoms of mold/mycotoxin exposure, to find out if mycotoxins are causing their health problems, and which ones.

For determining whether a space is contaminated, the test recommended by most mycotoxin illness specialists is the ERMI, which takes a dust sample and tells you which molds are present, so you will know how dangerous they are for your health. Often people have to move and get rid of belongings, as well as treat their bodies to help rid them of the mycotoxins faster.

I did Great Plains with my former LLMD about 6 months ago. My new LLMD wants me to redo my urine mycotoxin test with Real Time, she says they're more accurate and most physicians prefer. Ugh.
