Ever since I got sick I have struggled with issues with my voice. I have like hoarseness as if the muscles in my voice box don’t work. It’s very difficult for me to get the words out and my voice is extremely soft, monotone, etc.

They say a lot of neurological diseases cause dysphonia and autoimmune diseases also effect the larynx. Does anyone else struggle with these voice issues?

hoarseness in the voice can be linked to hypothyroid issues - might be worth getting that checked if you have no already done so - hypothyroidism and especially hashimoto's thyroiditis is very common with lyme et al

I'm looking now at some tests I had done a year or two ago.

T3 REVERSE, thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin, TSH, t4 free, t3 free, thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin antibodies. All within reference and my doctor never brought anything up about them. I've heard some people say the references aren't correct so I'm not sure.

Got it thanks! Yea my testosterone is super high and that’s without any supplemental hormones. No one has seemed to know why that is.

I don't know your T values but in the rare cases when it's not due to steroids and other drugs it can be caused by a testosterone secreting tumor.

There's also the rare case where the liver secretes more SHBG and thereby creating a higher T level in hyperthyroidism.

Again both these events are rare. Are you sure you're not taking anything else that can cause it? For example a SERM like clomid maybe? Or maybe HCG?

Have you ever had an MRI done?

On this specific test it was 1090 ng/dL with reference being 250-827. Actually on a more recent test it was even higher at 1334. So that seems very high.

I’ve had MRIs of my brain and they are ok but not a whole body MRI. I haven’t taken any of those drugs mentioned or anything similar. But yea it’s definitely concerning and not sure what else would cause.

I see from a quick search that high T could be a from a tumor most likely near the adrenals?

Oh wow yes I'll be honest (not to scare you) but for someone who isn't on steroids or other drugs, those levels of 1334 are too high and concerning. I don't say that lightly either because the last thing I want is to make you stress more than Lyme already does.

I was that level and higher a few times when I accidentally injected too much testosterone (I'm on testosterone replacement therapy). This was when I was still trying to find the correct level with my endocrinologist and we aimed too high.

So given that we can rule all those things out, I would really consider doing more imaging.

I would do abdomen, pelvis/scrotum scans given that you had an MRI on the brain already. I would also ask my doctor for a pituitary scan which specifically zooms in on the pituitary gland in the brain.

I personally have a tumor on my pituitary gland and it's having the reverse effect where all my hormones are too low.

However, I can't give too many ideas on where it would be located (not because I don't want to) but because I would only be guessing as there are many possibilities.

yep - steroid use or a hormone producing tumour on a gonad or adrenal gland are the typical things that are quoted as causes - but actually testosterone producing tumours are very very rare - i read 1 in 1 million people

also as such a tumour grows over time typically the levels quickly become many times over the normal range - eg 10x rather than just a little bit over ( 1.5x ) so i don't think its that - though it wouldn't hurt to have the scans done to be safe.

some people just have higher than normal levels

the other possibility is an aromatase inhibitor.

aromatase is an enzyme that works to break down testosterone in the body - its the other side of the equation from the hormone production.
the level of testosterone you have floating around in the body is actually dependent on both how much your glands are producing - and how much the aromatase is breaking down.
this enzyme that breaks testosterone down can be inhibited - some herbs do this - and in so doing cause your testosterone levels to go high - even though testosterone production has not gone up - its just what you are producing is not being broken down as quickly so level are higher.

my testosterone levels went to the high end of normal range for a 20year old male ( the levels are age dependent ) while taking nettle root tincture at just 4ml per day - and i'm in my 50's - so the effect can be powerful.

some over the counter drugs may be aromatase inhibitors too

I've seen the same thing on my blood tests. Testosterone, estradiol, cortisol, vitamin D all go way up when herxing. My guess is that borrelia somehow accumulates these steroids and these are released when the bacteria die.

I met someone with Lyme who lost their voice it’s rare but it’s one of the side effects of having Lyme.

i wonder if these hormones could be being released by tissue degradation during herx - from inflammation
similar to when people with hashimotos thyroiditis have episodes of high thyroid hormones from the immune system attacking the thyroid gland tissues and releasing surges of thyroid hormones
